they got it wrong...

so, I had the entire weekend to myself, which should qualify as a modern day miracle, but I managed to build six new levels and made a bunch of new areas. as I was marking them on the map, it occurred to me that Ferelden is in the southern hemisphere. if that is the case tho, why are the snowy levels, i.e. soldier's peak and the frostback mountains, all on the northernmost areas of the map with the exception of return to ostagar? the wilds, seeming the utmost southern area should be covered in snow and yet morrigan parades around them half naked. just an observation. I really need to find a new hobby. lol

Not necessarily.

Mountains tend to have snow (at the top) year round unless they are literally in the tropics/equator so you can't judge based on the Orzammar Mountains or Soldier's Peak

Morrigan has magic and I've always used that to account for why hair, makeup, and minimal clothing is never damaged. However, if the high temperature for the year is 50 degrees Fahrenheit, 40 degrees seems downright balmy so Morrigan's clothing might reflect the season - or magic keeps her warm - always possible. The GW could be in Ostagar at the height of summer. Based on foliage, it probably is summer. I would guess the approximate equivalent of central Canada to central US as far as the weather goes with both northern and southern Ferelden having distinct seasons. The size of Ferelden doesn't make me expect that you would have the temperature extremes that you would get between far northern Canada and southern Florida (for example). Maybe, but my GW doesn't hang out at the beach so it is a little unclear exactly how much temperature variation there is. ;)

true, although I'm not so certain about the mountain thing. the nc mountains only have snow in the winter time and sometimes not even then. BUT Ferelden does have a tiny "feel" to it considering the poor souls have to walk everywhere they go. it seems like it's a little sideways. the further west you go, the colderbit seems to get as well, haven and the frostbacks. it just seems a little off. I wasn't sure where to put my snowy level. so it's stuck near haven.

Since you are in the US, consider Orzammar to be similar to the Rocky Mountains through Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana.... If you take the beginning of the game to be late summer, that works out fairly well. Heck, the NC mountains don't have much snow even during the winter! For NC, you have to consider the weather patterns coming up from the gulf of mexico or up the eastern coast of FL. The Frostbacks don't have an obvious warm weather pattern that would keep them warmer than expected.

Actually, continental climate features such differences (not touching Morrigan's taste in clothing since I roll with Anne's headcanon here). What we can assume IF Earth's geography is reflected by Thedas is that the entire known area, Seheron and Par Vollen included, are in the southern hemisphere. The biggest problem with DAO is that the devs did not include dynamic weather. And so it looks like nothing changes in spite of the fact the game is supposed to begin in 9:30 Dragon and end in 9:31 Dragon. They just use altitude to give you the snowy texture. There is not even a bit of snowfall (if games from the nineties can pull it off, I wonder why DAO cannot).

I always explained the walking paradigm by "We Are Hunted and Poor So We Cannot Buy a Mule/Donkey/Horse/Meganug". Mechanics-wise, it is just BioWare not bothering with mounts (they did in DAI and we all know the riding memes).

If the game had freezing mechanics, Morgue would be in trouble. But it doesn't.

Morrigan wears slutty clothes because sex sells and Morrigan is the femme fatale romance option. Don't you even try to sell the "but your hot girl needs to cover herself from the weather" to such a cash-grabbing monster like EA, period.

Morrigan had at least a hood in her concept art. I don't know about english, but it's a very light-cloth hood that in some other languages is known as a wind-protector (crappy translation, I know). At least with that she could keep her ears and partially her face from windy weather.

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know enough about the development process of Morrigan, but I do know EA acquired BioWare in the process of creating Dragon Age, so I'm pretty sure a guy wearing a tie barged into the development room and warcried "Show me her tits!"
