confused
if your theory is correct how would you explain deja vu in places that you have never visited?
Akrid
Well the only way I could imagine my theory working there is if everything that led up to you going to that place or knowing of that place (after the dream) had variables to allow it to happen, and those variables where of some knowlage to you first. According to my theory the sub-consious could put together complex puzzels out of info tid-bits when the bits of info have some trigger relation to each other (like the bee-sting trigger relation) I don't know how probable this theory may be, but possible? yes. Stormscape
actually Acrid, there was no announcement. I ALWAYS hear an annoucement. never have missed one.
Peregrine
if your theory is correct how would you explain deja vu in places that you have never visited?Acrid, I think you may be trying to hard here. Remember, this is a place you haven't been before. So none of your memories can be exactly of it. But one thing explains it quite nicely: Favorable interpertation after the event: now that you have knowledge of what happened, your mind fills in the gaps in your memory, taking the "true" parts from vague/partially true memories and combining them with the new facts. The result is that nothing really happened, but your mind forces your memory to fit what is expected. Example: You have dreams of a city, and various bits of architecture in it. But your memory of the dream isn't complete (when is it ever?), and you are only consciously aware of the general point of it. Now skip ahead a while, and you find yourself in a city that has some similar architecture. Now your mind recalls that dream, blurs the facts a bit, and says "hey, I've been here before." And because some elements of it are right, you ignore the differences. And assume that you did dream of this city, because now its easy to interpert it to mean that. Here's a hint: when dealing with anything involving knowledge you shouldn't have (whether its predictions of the future, somewhere you've never been, etc) always check it against this concept. Make sure you're looking at the real facts and not just taking the ones that match what you "know" to be true and bending them to fit.
SilvuruAgnost
well if I were from england i might have coud explained it. But i`m not and then it is getting dificoult
Akrid
Indeed I wish we where all from england  Well my theory may be far fetched but the mind is amazing and I was wondering what amazing things can it do? But yes I would agree what you said is much more probable peregrine. I was just adding my theory to the disscusion. I think somthing about things entering your consious the same time as your sub-consious is a proven fact if I'm not mistaken. However your facts don't mean my theory is imposible either, both could explain diffrent expierences though even less probable that there would be two causes. Anyway I based my theory on the sixth sense concept, like your sub-consious sets off alerts when somthing isn't right. Think about how amazing it is that lifeforms have eyes, now that is far out right? but it happend. So the life with eyes survived better than the blind life and left it in the dust (or to become plant's and tree's?) So wouldn't you agree that life with good 6th sense would out live other life and 6th sense would be a very well evolved ability that could set off triggers in your dreams? Think about when you lay down and just remember you left your keys in the car, or forgot to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer. When you rest your mind is more relaxed and you are closer to meditation, where your sub-consiuos shares more with you and sets off bit's of relevent info causing you to think of the conseqence, that if you fell asleep already could be a proficised(sp?) dream. Drake Crowind
What about past experiences repeating themselves? Like when I was driving my grandma and little niece to my mom's house my niece (Gabby) thew a toy plush frog at the dash from the back seat and it landed on my right knee. Well three weeks later It was the same cartrip with the same people and the same frog landing on my right knee... I only noticed it was the same thing when I got home and I noticed the frog was in the cupholder of my car. Maybe I was having a brain hiccup and thought it happend again but then my grandma called and said she had seen the same thing. (she is superstitous but not stupid... I hope. ;) ) Yea its freaky but maybe there is a scientific explantion. Care to elaborate? I really like this topic. :D Also while we are on the subject of dreams I had a freaky one which I think was supossed to be a nightmare: I was in a small camping area except it was more like a town or village and I noticed to big doors off to the east. I (stupidly) went over to them to check it out and then an army official came and chased me away. When I asked why he said that it was a small and dangerous desert behind the doors which lead to a temple. I then snuck past him and went through a small sewer grate (Metal Gear Solid?) that lead to the desert. When I got there the man was right about it being small because it was surrounded by icy mountains and was about as big as my block. I went into the "Temple" and before I could go further a giant spider/squid thing came out and attacked me (Zelda flashbacks lol). I ran for the doors out of the desert and opend them (mistake) and a large tank came out and almost squashed me (definatly Metal Gear Solid lol). I ignored the tank and went into the small house in the middle of the "Camp Area" and when I got inside I heard thunder and when I looked outside a man running around in panic just got struck by lighting (one of my greatest fears) and his blood and guts and all that stuff splashed all over me (lovley). I panicked and ran outside and when I looked up a lighting bolt was chraging at me. usually when you see that you're automaticly dead becuase it would hit me before I could move. then a miracle happend it hit another man in front of me. So I took my oportunity and ran into the sewer grate to hide. I then realized that a giant monster was pulling me into the desert. So out of nowhere a giant knife came flying and cut the tentacle wrapped around my feet. I didn't care who it was I just took my chance and ran away but then the lighting started to go after me. I was quick and was able to out run it and then I found the entrance to the "Camp Area". I ran through the doors and started to run on pavement covered in wet leaves. I then saw a bright light up ahead so I ran for it with lighting striking after me. I ran rightinto the light and woke up with the sun shining my face. I know it was long but it was a nightmare that I found enjoyable somehow.Post your comments about my dream and the Deja Vu and I look forward to some good answers and comments. -Crowind (still can't program VCR)
ctogher
Having experienced a fair amount of DV over the last 10/11 years I am becoming more and more convinced that we are all naturally precognitive. However, the day-to-day distractions of life continually override any input from that part of your mind. It may be that while at rest your mind is able to process and examine these events, but not to any significant degree. My personal theory is that, while our apparenlty physical being is bound to a fixed plane of existence, our spirit may extend itself both forward and backward in time. In most cases the DV I have experienced has been of a fairly major event, (death of a family member, accident, etc...). Another one I rather like is that the mind is capable of making educated guesses of possible futures along a discontinuous time line. In other words, records possible futures and triggers the memory event once a possible becomes an actual... ie. you have just actively altered the future to one more favourable/less favourable.. It may also be a developing survival instinct. Perhaps mankind is merely continuing to evolve as a species. As we develop, our minds are also becoming more and more complex..... Just some thoughts....
