bluemarvin
Been trying to solve this for a LOOONNNGGG time. Anyone who can help, you will go down in history. I made some recipes for craftable arrows. I started requiring a number of items to build 24 arrows, with each arrow being worth 100 gold. The items needed to make the 24 special arrows was like 24 ebony arrows, a gem, an alchemy item, and something else. However when I crafted the 24 special arrows, I sent from 70 Smithing to 85, instantly. So I figured it had to so with value. Either the items I'm crafting are too valuable (and x24 afterall) or else the items being DESTROYED to craft the arrows are too valuable, so it's result in a big Smithing XP gain. So I dropped the requirements down to almost nothing (like arrows and 1 alchemy item) and reduced their value to like 8 per arrow, in line with ebony arrow values. It now goes from 70 to 80 with one crafting. I can't get the jump lower than this. What determines how much XP gets added when crafting arrows? I can't see much of a difference between my arrows and the craftable arrows added through Dawnguard. Totally puzzled.
IsharaMeradin
Smithing gain at the forge is based upon the value of the item created (same is true of any of the workstations). When making multiples at once the gain is also multiplied. See UESP wiki for formula details. That said, if your means of testing is using a save that already contains the recipe in question there could be the possibility that some portions of the values going into the calculation are not being reset. You should always do your testing on clean saves and/or new games to rule out such inconsistencies.
bluemarvin
Now I'm totally confused. I changed the recipe to create an Iron Ingot from a single piece of firewood. It still jumps me 5 Smithing levels from 70 to 75.I mean others can't be experiencing this or it would be a HUGE issue. Totally stumped.
bluemarvin
Ah thanks for the thoughts there re: saves. Going to play around with that now.
bluemarvin
Okay added a NEW recipe that created 10 iron ingots from 1 piece of firewood. Loaded a save. As this is a new recipe, it could not have existed in that save prior. Crafted, and it jumped from 70 Smithing to 79 Smithing. Any additional thoughts greatly appreciated. bluemarvin
Narrowing this down. Created a new mod with just one recipe, to turn 1 Iron Ingot into 5 Steel Ingots. Stopped loading old mod, loaded new one. All was well.So it appears to be something with my previous mod, but I can't figure out what since there's nothing to it that would impact Smithing XP. Just various craftable arrows with various effects.
bluemarvin
This has been strange. May as well keep documenting in case someone else comes across this problem. I created a new mod, then little by little have been moving the elements of the original problem mod to the new mod. So far everything is working great re: Smithing leveling with the new mod. Using the EXACT same changes that were used in the original mod.
