hoofhearted4
ok so im thinking about getting a blue ray drive for my build over just a regular old cd/dvd drive. i dont know how to tell if a drive can read/write CDs. DVDs and Blu Rays, so if you guys could provide some opinions on drives that can do it all, that would be great. idk how expensive such drives get so cheaper is better. i just want to be able to watch blu rays on my PC as well as play games, and burn CDs/DVDs. and whatnot. again thanks all :) Edited August 3, 2011 by hoofhearted4
Erik005
I found this one Lite-On iHOS104. It seems good and not to expensive.
hoofhearted4
does this do the same thing? i noticed the numbers were difference, but idk what all those 32X and whatnot means :P http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135247
draconix
In the specs, you can see that it has read speeds for bluray discs, but no write speeds. This means with this drive, you can read bluray discs for movies and such, but you won't be able to burn them. It can still burn DVDs though, which is nice. hoofhearted4
hmmm. yea id never have to burn blu rays, but i guess id want that option in there, as long as it doesnt burn my pocket instead :P like i said idk what all the numbers mean so im not sure what it needs to have
draconix
Honestly, those numbers don't make a huge difference one way or the other. Some people will tell you that you want high numbers so that DVDs burn faster, but in my experience, burning DVDs at a lower rate increases my overall success rate, saving me time in the long run. So I would just look at reviews and make sure that these drives don't have a habit of dieing after a few months, and make sure that the price is right. After that, specs won't really matter too much to most people.
Vecna6667
A blue ray burner is a luxury and most command a premium for a price.
hoofhearted4
lol i wont really care if it doesnt burn blu rays. if it doesnt have blu ray burning at the prices of the items listed above, then i will go without. by the time i ever need to burn blu rays (if i ever do) ill just buy one. other then that, as long as it can play blu rays (and burn cds/dvds) im set
