Vageryn
Greetings; my name is... we'll say Vageryn for now. I've been a console gamer most of my life. In the past couple years I started getting into PC games. (Now that I have a decent machine) My first foray into PC games was the Diablo Battle Chest, man I had blast with those games. Then I checked out Dream Fall and The Longest Journey; from there I moved onto KOTOR (god I love that game) and NWND (Bad-ass Monk Class) My next purchase was going to be The Witcher, but I purchased The 5th Anniversary Edition of Oblivion Instead. (It screamed BUY ME when I walked by it) I remember checking this game out a few years ago (was able to play it for about a week) on a gaming site, but I remembered little from it aside from the fact that you start as immigrant (At least I thought you did until I installed this game) and Rats were huge and Wolves could kill you easily. The game site wanted everyone to experience what they felt was the best Oblivion experience. I don't know, I rather like the prison opening. I've done quite bit of browsing on many forums and I've heard that this game is virtually unplayable without mods. Apparently it is very bug ridden, however I've yet to run into any bugs aside from the occasional crash on exit. I know there are patches that correct the bugs in the game like The Unofficial Patch, but is it needed on newer versions of the game? I only ask because if I do need it then it sounds like the first thing I should have done was install the patch; foolish me installed Mods instead. I hadn't intended on playing the game with Mods, but after running around with sub par hand to hand combat (Really wanted my custom class to work) I decided to see what was out there. A lot lol. I ended up with Better Hand2Hand and Monk Weapons, which are pretty sweet, then I saw the Texture Mods and decided why not? I didn't go for anything major just ones that enhanced the original version. Same environments (impressive in their own right) but stunning. The more reading I did however, the more I found out about "essential" mods like OBSE, OBGE, OBMM and Wrye Bash as well as performance enhancers. Well color me confused. So I downloaded OBSE and Wrye Bash. I may download OBGE, but I'm happy with the way graphics are at the moment. Plus, I don't want to go overboard on the Mods. (Games have a habit of crashing when too many are running) Right now I'm thinking I made a mistake installing the Mods I did. Should I have installed the Unofficial Patch first? If I didn't install the patch will I run into problems down the road? Should uninstall everything and start from scratch? I apologize for the questions in this intro. I really should make a another thread or find threads with the same issues. It just these things are my mind at the moment so please forgive me. Iv000
I recommend playing the game with only the Unofficial Patch first. Then when you finish it you can mod the hell out of it. ( I recommend spending some time on finding and installing the mods, and choosing carefully.)OBSE is a addon not a mod, OBGE is used for shader effects I only use it for Godrays, but it has Depth of field etc. Also welcome to the forums, I hope you will enjoy it here! Vageryn
Thanks for the welcome and the sound advice. I decided to do a clean install I then installed the required patches and have left it at that. I might still go with the better H2H though; I'm a sucker for Monks or I might play my other preferred Class: The Thief and Save the Monk for another play through. I remember modding Diablo 2 a few years back, but I never use that many. Usually just a texture Mod or two. I think it's amazing what Modders come up with and it'll be fun checking them out in the future. Well I'm going play this great game I've been missing out on. Thanks again.
