Vindekarr
Im asking this here because Steam support has completely ingored both my three phonecalls, and the customer support ticket that preceded them. I can't get onto Steam, and it's a problem that's been going on for... well about a month now. It all started when I logged out of Steam to relog, and then got the error message "Steam is having trouble connecting to the steam servers" I decided to give it a break to sort itself out, but it hasnt, and now Im starting to get annoyed. I changed absolutely nothing-nothing in Steam's settings, nothing on my PC, nothing with my internet setup, yet for some reason Im unable to connectto steamon exactly the same system that so easily used it before. Any help?
CommanderCrazy
Back up game install folder area, reinstall steam, replace install folders, WINNING. In truth though, i dont know if this will work, or if you have tried already.
Halororor
I had issues with Steam not responding when I tried logging in the last month. Just delete everything in the Steam folder except for Steam.exe and the Steamapps folder. Run steam.exe and let it update, then see if it helps. Otherwise, try reinstalling Steam entirely (making sure to backup your Steamapps folder, as CommanderCrazy said).
Vindekarr
I'll say one thing, it's made me really hate steam with a passion. Three years as a customer and as soon as something goes wrong... Their "customer support" has completely ignored everything I said, literaly, they don't even agnowledge I've said anything to them. Could a ban perhaps be involved? or account hack? something's very wrong here because I didnt do anything, or change anything, and now I can't get it to locate the server. It keps talking about a Router but I don't even own a router.
Halororor
You might have to wait ages before it can be fixed. Steam support is notoriously terrible with response times. Never dealt with their telephonic support before, but I submitted a ticket because I was double charged for a game yesterday, where the purchase screen told me the transaction had failed, and when I tried it again it gifted it to me because I already owned the game. Didn't know the transaction had actually gone through, seeing as it told me it had failed, so now I'm left with a gifted game that I can do absolutely nothing with, because I already own the game. Still waiting for them to respond to the ticket I submitted yesterday.
Vindekarr
I think you're right Halo. It's been over a week now and I've got nothing back from them. Im thinking Im defnitely going to have to start phoning them, because this is just getting ridiculous. Anybody got any ideas as to what might be happening? Vagrant0
Any help?Only thing I can think of is if you or your ISP is using a p2p blocker of some kind that blocks "Limelight Networks, LLC (roughly 68.142.*.* and 68.28.*.*) or Valve Corporation (72.165.61.*) or some of the other servers that Steam uses. It's even possible that if you're using a firewall of some kind you are blocking these inadvertently because of denying something popped up from your antivirus when starting a Steam game. Needless to say that if you've used a no-steam patch of some kind, these can also prevent connection to steam (via firewall rule) to avoid being detected and can screw up other steam games you have. Vindekarr
Maybe... it's just wierd. I log out on evening, and in the minute or so it took me to relog, I went from totaly Steam capable to totaly steam incapable. I am confused, it is now offical.
Vagrant0
Try logging in from another location. Bother a friend or casual acquaintance to try connecting from their location (case of beer (Redbull for those under 21) works well as a thankyou, but bring it in after the computer is setup). Vindekarr
Yeah, there's definitely something that I've done... somehow. This weekend Im def going to do some more drastic action, going to check my moden over, change some cords, try another PC, and compare settings between a comp where it works and doesnt work. Steam finaly responded today, but unfortunately I only got an automated response that linked me to exactly the same troubleshooting page as I got, which is largely either non situationaly applicable, or indecipharable networking jargin I have no comprehention of.
