NPC combat

Recommended Posts

I am having an issue with NPC combat. I have an NPC set up to enable and hunt me down. He runs up and talk to me and gives me the option to pay back what I owe, go to jail or fight to the death. The fight option works and the script starts combat but if I'm in a town when he does, everyone around us attacks him as well. I don't want anyone else to participate in the combat and flee instead. Any ideas what I need to fix for this?

The problem is that he started the fight, and the game will always make bystanders come to the aid of the person being attacked. Even if you cast an AOE demoralise spell, the guards would still attack, short of manually altering every single NPC's confidence and disposition, even if you put the attacker in the city factions. Stay out of towns.

I guess I'm trying to figure out how to essentially trigger him the same was that guards respond to a bounty by setting the bounty before the fight, but I am not sure what route to take to get him in "guard attack" mode where bystanders will either aid him or do nothing, or run away, etc any thoughts there? I think I'll go look at the AI packages for guards hunting down players with bounties and go from there

Again, this is all about disposition and confidence. When a guard arrests you, you're not yet being attacked -- a talk dialog is occuring. Only if you resist arrest does an attack occur, and then any NPCs who have positive disposition towards you and negative towards guards will be candidates for aiding you. Their confidence will also factor in to whether they will side with you or not.
