falloutperson416
I'm going to reinstall Fallout 3, but will it wipe my data folder? Or do I need to back it up somewhere.
SariDecember
I would definitely do a backup. I just recently noticed after a horrendous, time consuming retexturing job that you always think about doing backups when it's too late (don't ask any further, I was that short from throwing my rig through the closed window!) ;)
7thsealord
Back up, definitely.
RadRich
Just make a copy of the "data" folder (and other folders like the Fallout3 folder under Documents\Games --- where your "saves" are located) to another folder or directory on your HDD. After uninstalling and re-installing, copy that folder over the existing new folder.
bben46
Unfortunately, if the problem you are reinstalling to fix is actually contained in one of those mods, or anything else in the data folder or saves folder, you will still have that problem after restoring the data folder. Best, after reinstalling and before installing any mods or restoring the original data folder, TEST the game to be sure it works. Then make a backup of the vanilla data folder before adding mods. talbot6832
Sometimes a fresh install makes you feel all clean.
