Ammo mods gun imcompatability

I have a few mods ammo mods d/led, the Dragons Breath, Smokes pwnage, and fire ammo and maybe one other? i'm not sure

BUT regardless, when i go to switch to the custom ammo, whether it be the Smokes, DB or whatever it won't let me...

i have the proper guns to go with the ammo but it's greyed out. but the energy weapon ammo seems to work fine. just not the regular guns ammo

now the ammo that comes with the game, Armor pierce, hollow point, etc all work fine.

not too sure what to make of all this but any help would be deeply appreciated.
