Crash while saving after 200+ hours

I have a medium number of mods applied including OOO. Everything works great and runs stable. The only time the system crashes is if I'm running, jumping, casting spells, and a new outdoor area begins to load. Things slow down for a few seconds and if I keep running, it'll tend to crash. That's fine, I can deal with that by not moving for a second or two and it doesn't happen that often.

Every time I save I save to a new file and don't overwrite existing save files. Auto-save is disabled. However, once my play time hits 200+ hours, it'll start to randomly crash upon trying to save and corrupt the save file. This has happened to me twice now. The last time it happened, I had to start over. Now it has happened again and I either need to figure out why and fix it or just be done playing the game.

Does anyone know of a 200+ hour play time save/crash bug? Is there a fix for it? Thanks.

Yes there is- I cant remember if it is the Abomb bug or the RefId bug. The abomb can be repaired using Wrye Bash. You should Have neither of these bugs if you have all your patches installed.

Abomb bug was never acknowledged by Bethesda

was never addressed by any official patch

and cannot be fixed by any unofficial patch

(the standalone fixes edit the game save)

Oh look at that- thanks for the info Fonger. I just did some quick research and I am not even sure the RefId Bug causes a crash after 200 hours of gameplay. Anyway that one is fixed by the patches. It was the only thing that rang bells in my mind when I read the topic title.

now the formid bug was really funny

once the modding community proved it occurred on the Xbox (by porting a save from Xbox)

Bethesda got serious about fixing it --- hence the 1.2.0416 patch

but that is frame rate driven, not hours of play driven

the abomb seems to be time driven rather than frame rate ... making it a prime suspect in this case.

but then again it could be as simple as needing a masterupdate --- tes4edit?

or maybe the OP was whacking on the defenseless at perryite's shrine (can set up a delayed auto-crash on save)

I have all of the Official and Unofficial patches applied.

I don't appear to be having any issues with my animations, so I doubt it's the Abomb bug.

I realized I don't have the weOCPS plugin installed. I'll see if that clears up my issues.

(And no, I didn't whack the defenseless at Perryite's shrine. Wasn't aware of an issue with that, though).

UPDATE: weOCPS doesn't fix the crash-on-save problem. :( No more Oblivion for me, I guess. Time to wait for Skyrim.
