billzombie
I've been searching for an answer all week with to no avail. Subitted a help ticket to Bethesda on Monday with still no response yet. The story so far. Finally bought the game through Steam last Sunday, it was on sale for 9.99!! Score! Installed it over night, came home from work Monday and launched the game through Steam. Laucher started, auto detected my settings and was set to ultra high. Set the resolution to match my monitor in the options (1440 x 900). Clicked New Game, went through the opening cut scene, shot in the face, went to a load screen for a min., when that finished the scree went black and came up with a Windows Error that needed to close the program. I went to AMD and downloaded new video drivers, installed them, tried to start a new game again. Rejoice! The game started successfully. I played for a few hours with no problems. The next day I go to load my game, FAIL. Same error as when I orginally tried to start my game. Relaunched the game again, this time clicked to start a new game, FAILS again, same thing... game will start loading and crashed (assuming after the loading had finished). I tried multiple things, set all exe's (steam, falloutnv, falloutnvlauncher) to winxp sp3 mode with admin rights, fails. Tried starting the game with the lowest settings, still fails. I've killed all running processes that aren't related to Windows and Steam, still fails. Any ideas? Win7 x64Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHzAsus ATI EAH4850/512M Thanks in advance for any assistance! maboru
Try reinstalling your video driver again, it sounds like it got corrupted.
billzombie
Try reinstalling your video driver again, it sounds like it got corrupted. Turns out this was really good advise! I uninstalled the driver through add/remove programs. Installed an app called Driver Sweeper from here. Downloaded (did not install yet) latest drivers again from ATI. Restarted Windows into safe mode. Ran Driver Sweeper and cleaned out any AMD driver remains. Unplugged my network cable, rebooted (to prevent windows from trying to install the graphic drivers from Windows Updates). Installed the latest drivers. Rebooted. (plugged network cable back in now) Viola! Its working now.
