I hear this game has many impressive mods, I was hoping you guys could recommend some of the best and highest quality ones to get me started. Anything that fixes known bugs, or adds some graphical improvements. Also something to improve the UI would be nice. Thanks for any advise guys.

It really depends on what type of experience you want out of it... That being said I love old school shooters but also the CoD style combat and so:

AmmoCollectFPS style: Walk over dead bodies picks up their ammo automatically

RZW's Portables: Adds some gnarly misc items such as a functioning tv, gramaphone and (things for RP or just neat to look at)

AAAJNF mods such as portable camping equipment, sniper zoom functions.

ROBOBOMB remote control bomb

A World of Pain: Must have for some extra killing and cool missions

Chryslus Corvega: Still beta-ish but eventually you get a really neat fast travel alternative

Nordic Weapons: Beautiful guns, to my taste anyway

Readius: Pipboy alternative

so many more

The rest present themselves by how many people download them so go to any category and click show downloads in descending order to find the most popular mods of that category, endorsements works as well. That isn't to say that some of the best mods aren't popular but can be difficult to find...

ok delendry, imma tell you which mods that are necessary

fallout mod manager (fomm) :this isnt really a mod, but it can make mod installation much better, you will also need it for some mods that use its package manager: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901

nvse - this mod makes many mods like enclave commander, rts, and project Nevada work : http://nvse.silverlock.org/

archive invalidated: this program lets you replace vanilla(original) textures for mods such as female body replacers: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35935

fellout new vegas: this mod removes the orangish tint from the game, making clear days but nights are very dark: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34888

electro city, relighting the wasteland: if you get fellout, be sure you get this too: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37908

weapon retexture project (wrp): this mod makes every gun look better and its got dlc support too: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38285

weapon mods expanded: this make ingame weapon modding much more fun because in the base game.most guns had only 1 or no available mods at all. also get the patch for wrp, if your getting this: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39651

project nevada: this mod is simply awesome. theres sprinting, ramming, an fps style grenade hot key, visor effects, and new weapons:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40040

there are many good mods, but these are ones you definitely need

i would recommend playing it for a little bit first to see what sort of FPS you get if you get a lot maybe get NMC what replaces a lot off textures for big buildings houses that sort off thing. then get a weapon one so you don't look like your shooting from a blob of sick hahah then i would small mods first to see how you game goes then go with big mods :) i have about 60 mods in my load order also get Darn UI it makes all the text smaller so you get more on the screen :) happy modding :)

Here are the mods that I prefer to use

Project Nevada, Nevada Skies v31AllInOne, Enhanced Shaders Lite (Even the mod author uses the lite edition as shown in his readme), TG's Armors, Backpack's Mod, Spawn increase mod IHW Full, and Electro City.

You can pretty much find the best mods by going to each individual section and choosing most downloaded then desc.

Its important to look at the mods original date and the mods total downloads to see what most people prefer to use.

For instance if you look at gameplay mods most downloaded - You'll see WMX, Fook, and Nevada skies

However if you look at the mod upload data and total downloads vs total downloads overall you will see project nevada, nevada skies, and WMX.

Fook will show more downloads since it has been around longer, but since project nevada was released it has almost reached the total fook downloads and fook was released a lot earlier.

Now if you look at WMX, then goto weapons section you will see WME as #1 for the weapons section.

However in total downloads vs upload dates under the gameplay section WMX reigns as the supreme weapons mod.

Now if you goto fallout 3 you will see that the top 3 mods are

FWE (Same team as project nevada), WMK (Same designer as WMX), and Fellout.

The top 3 most used for new vegas appear to be Project Nevada, Nevada Skies, and WMX.

Also look at the top 25 and top 100 of each individual section.

it all depends on how you like to play.

what genre of mods are you looking for?

do you like mods that make it difficult?

do you like mods that create more immersion?

do you like those pretty girl mods?

do you like mods that create more quests and areas?

do you like keepin it real grungy and dirty, or do you want to have all kinds of cool fancy stuff?

are you looking for companions?

tell us what your interested in and what your not.

otherwise i would suggest looking at cyberweasel89's list here: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/398604-cyberweasel89s-list-of-mods-for-the-casual-gamer/

Do not just add any mod players suggest Dalendry, you have to keep in mid that some mods can and do conflict with each other. Not all mods are stable and some, especially larger mods, can crash your game.

Play New Vegas for a bit and get used to it, when you start to notice things you think could be improved upon then do a search on the Nexus and add it to your game. Start off small until you are used to it and really understand what you are altering/adding with each mod.

If you want mods I suggest The Collector and Deimos, they are both story based mods that blend very well into New Vegas without changing any core parts of the game.

Thank you for all the recommendations guys! I really appreciate the quick and thorough responses. I will definitely play the game for a bit and get a feel for what I think I want. Although I'm sure many of these suggestions sound perfect for my play style. Thanks again guys!
