Preparing For Release

I'm sure many of you, especially since you're reading this and are apart of this forum, are extremely excited for Skyrim's release. What I'm asking is, what are your plans for the release?

The game is being released on November 11, which is also Veteran's Day, so I won't have school that day. I asked a clerk at GameStop if they were doing a midnight release, and she said, "definitely." So obviously this opens up multiple scenarios for things to do, whether it's the time before the midnight launch, or how your weekend is going to go.

Here's my plan:

Once I get home from school on Thursday, I'm going ape s**t on my homework. I don't even care if I do good work, it's all getting done THAT night. Especially since it's my senior year, so I don't need particularly awesome grades. Then, maybe around 10pm or so, a few of my friends are coming over to get ready to head to GameStop. One of my friends even has school the next day, what a trooper. Around 10:45pm, we will head out and wait in line for the release. Maybe grab some McDonald's since it's right across the parking lot.

Wait in line...

Wait in line...

Grab my Collector's Edition and run to the car. Take everyone home (no less than 45mph even on side streets, must get home to play), run to my basement, and start installing the game to my hard drive. While installing, I'm getting all the Red Bull's I bought a week prior to this, and will attempt to remain on an energy high for as long as possible.

Play Skyrim...

Play Skyrim...

Once breakfast time comes around, I'll run upstairs, slap some cheese on a bagel, put it in the microwave for 20 seconds, eat it, then return to playing Skyrim.

Forget lunch, that's for the weak. But around this time, I'll remember that I need to pee. Apparently the pain from holding it back was dulled out by Skyrim's pure epic fun. So I'll pee as hard as I freaking can, because you have to remember, every second you spend peeing is a second you aren't playing Skyrim. That's life's golden rule.

Play Skyrim...

Play Skyrim...

My mother feebly attempts to feed me dinner. She tempts me with teriyaki glazed salmon. It works. I spend a painful 30 minutes, making small talk about, other, unimportant things, like the economy, or the weather. Dammit mother, I have dragons to slay!

Play Skyrim...

Around breakfast time I realize, holy s**t, where did Friday go? I also realize that I haven't slept since 6am on Thursday, it's been a full 52 hours without sleep. So what do I do? I sleep. Which is perfect, because being on a backwards sleeping pattern is perfect, because then you don't have to deal with the nagging of your parents. "Garret, you've been playing that for too long," they say. "You smell awful," they tell me. Foolish parents, they don't understand how important I am to the land of Skyrim. Without me, these poor NPC children might parish.

While sleeping, I dream of Skyrim. So many things to do! How am I supposed to fit 300 hours of game content into one measly weekend? I wake up at 10pm that night. No! I've slept for far too long! My Saturday playing time is gone! I must make it up..

I play the game for the remainder of my Sunday, ruthlessly slashing and burning my enemies in a beautiful orchestra of death.

It's Monday morning, 5am, when I remember, I have school in 2 hours. I go to sleep for the final hour of my Skyrim weekend. I go to sleep ... a champion.

But yeah. A lot of that was heavily dramatized, but I like fantasizing about this weekend that is now less than three months away. I've had the night planned since February, and I've already made sure that I wouldn't have work that weekend. Yup, it's going to be a beautiful weekend.

So what're your plans?

I dunno if you could rely on them having a collector's edition available if you didn't preorder. Far as I heard, most places are sold out already.

My plan: Have a nice long leisurely sleep the night before, buy it on Steam in the morning, spend the day making a box for it.

3 Days after release

I plan to sleep in till midday as usual after writing all night. Get up and eat breakfast, then whilst everyone is still at work and school, head on over to the local mall to pick up a copy of the game off the shelf if there's any left. come home and purge my system of all unused programs and make sure it's all virus free before introducing my new game to it. I'll have it install over dinner because I bet it's going to be a pretty big game that will take a while to install. Let's see, it's Monday the 14th at this stage so I'll be watching some programs the whole family enjoy untill late in the evening. At this point I'll make the bad choice of forgoing the writing session to give Skyrim a go. I will probably spend no less than an hour just in character creation and if it's not too late by then I'll probably play through the early stages of the game, however, if it is too late than off to bed, the game won't run away.

I am seriously excited for this game but I want to savor every moment of it, I want the hundreds of hours to be played over many weeks not in a mad dash. I want to explore every millimeter of the world, admire every minute detail. I'll listen to every bit of dialogue instead of cycling through just to get back to slashing something and I intend to read every last page of every book, scroll, parchment whatever.

I rushed through Oblivion when I got it a few years ago just to get through the main quest as fast as possible, that was a huge mistake I don't intend to repeat. My Dovakiin will need some days off from questing so I hope there's odd jobs and such to do around town... I'm going to milk this first experience for everything it's worth.

Son of a...

I just realized that Skyrim is released on Veteran's Day... which is a holiday... which means that the USPS doesn't deliver! :ninja:

Cripes... I really hope that they ship with UPS... But that means that I won't be able to get it until 4:00 PM... Gah! :ohdear:

Well then, I'm getting my homework done on Friday. No doubt about that...

Wait till 11/11/11 .. Avoid the internet for a few days while I wait till 11/15/11 for the CE box to get to my house ~_~ .. Play it awhile as an argonian .. Restart and play as a Kahjiit .. Restart and play as a Dunmer .. Restart and Play as an Argonian again but this time really play it lols .. Avoid sidequests and just do the main story .. Finish the game and watch the making of video and look at the artbook .. Then go back and dive into the sidequests and reeeally play the game .. Then mod it and play for a few more years like I did with oblivion and F3 :)
