welsher
Before I begin let me just say that I am well aware there are many topics on this issue, however none are quite like mine. OK so I recently installed Fallout: New Vegas again months after I uninstalled it... (Steam copy) It used to work fine didn't experience a single bug. However I am now experiencing a very weird and game breaking problem... Each and every time I play, no matter where I am in game, No matter what I am doing or what save I am using the game will lock up and I will be left unable to move the cursor, alt tab or ctrl alt del out of the game... This happens around 5 mins into the game every time and just before it happens I completely lose all sound in the game. Sometimes the music will carry on playing for a while and then it will stop or some ambient FX will continue to play, such as a campfire, and I can actually hear music playing from other programs running in the background such as Itunes or people talking in Skype which proves the whole computer isn't locking up - yet it wont let me ctrl alt del or alt tab. The only way I can escape is by cold booting, and it's beginning to take its toll on my computer. I have tried many things, updating drivers, changing graphic settings, updating the game, re installing, cleaning the registry etc etc but nothing has worked. The weirdest thing about what is happening is that it only happens to Bethesda games... The EXACT same thing recently happened to me with TES IV:Oblivion too. I have no idea how to fix this. Here are my computers specs and mod load order;FalloutNV.esmDeadMoney.esmHonestHearts.esmOldWorldBlues.esmCaravanPack.esmReadius.NV.esp (Disabled)Erebus.esphz_SVD.espGlove_be_gone.espLegion Redesigned.espRCSS.espTheEnd.espm1d.espSpetsnazArmor.esp (Disabled) I also have the latest versions of NVSE and FOMM installed. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bitAMD Athlon II X4 620 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.6GHz4GB RAMDirectX 11GeForce GTX 460Realtek HD audio (not sure if I needed to post this but I will just incase) Any one have any ideas? This is bugging the hell out of me. Thanks in advance. Edited August 18, 2011 by welsher
Med111
I have same problem, probably caused by something else. I don't know how to fix it, but I can give you advice - try using Fullscreen Windowed mode (can be found on Nexus), you will be able to deactivate freezed FalloutNV process in task manager by using just keyboard. welsher
Thank you for the advice, im kinda relieved to know that at least im not the only one experiencing this. If you discover anything that resolves, reduces or involves this issue please post back here, as will I. Edited August 18, 2011 by welsher
Dan3345
why are you cold booting if your entire computer isnt frozen? Just cntl alt dlt and end the task in the task manager. You don't have many mods, but then i don't have any idea what these mods are (hz_SVD.esp, and m1d.esp). Try deactivating all mods, and the DLC's and loading the game to the start menu and then quitting. Reactivate all mods and dlc, and play game. I had this problem once and that fixed it for me. Its because what I am looking at in game when it freezes becomes locked to the screen. If I alt tab or Ctrl alt del it just wont work, believe me I've tried. The other guy provided a full screen windowed mod that works around the issue of having to reboot the computer every time it freezes, however it doesn't fix the freezing problem. I've tried removing all the mods, now I will try with the DLC's too, thanks for your suggestion. Edited August 18, 2011 by welsher

I actually just left it running for about 3 mins after it froze again (using the fullscreen windowed mod) and it started responding again. It's still a massive pain in the ass but hey, at least it gives anyone who would be willing to help a bit more insight into what is going on
Med111
I fixed my problem with freezing. It was caused by mod conflic and one of these mods was altering something after some ingame time has passed. Every time it's script kicked in, incompatibility caused freeze. If anyone is interested Frequency.esm is not compatibile with VendorGameTimeRestock.esp. If I was you, I'd check what mods may be triggering something when your game freezes and remove them or incompatibile ones.
