Simple Question

Recommended Posts

I just want to know how you install the mods?

I get theres some CookedPC folder or somthing like that, but i have no idea wher it is.

It looks prety simple, but if someone could just explain it to me in steps from downloading the mod from this site, and installing it to your game.

I don't know how much you know about modding so I'll explain as detailed as possible. For Windows, you do the following:

1. Since most files on the Witcher nexus are compressed as archives in .rar, .7z or .zip format, you'll need a program like WinRAR or 7-Zip to unpack them. Download and install one of them if you haven't already, they're both free.

2. Choose the mod you want and download it, then open the file using WinRAR and extract it to a chosen location on your computer. I suggest you extract it to your desktop for now.

3. Next you need to locate your CookedPC folder, which can be found at your Witcher 2 install directory (not in My documents!). For the retail version, it'll probably be in C:/Program Files/The Witcher 2. (If you bought the game from Steam it's in C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/Common/The Witcher 2.) This is where you place your mods.

(If you don't have a CookedPC folder in that location, just create a new folder and name it "CookedPC".)

4. Move the mod from your desktop (or wherever you put it) to the CookedPC folder. Always make sure you put the mod EXACTLY where it's supposed to be; some mods go directly in the main CookedPC folder while others need to be placed in certain subfolders inside the CookedPC folder or they won't work (most of the time they are included with the mod, otherwise you can just create them yourself). If this is the case it is usually mentioned in the mod description on the site. For the "Return of the White Wolf - hair texture replacement" for example, the entire directory for the mod should be C:/Program Files/The Witcher 2/CookedPC/characters/player/model/head.

5. Start the game. If the mod file is where it's supposed to be, it should be in the game now. If it isn't, check the mod description on the site again and make sure you put it in the right place. Also remember to never install conflicting mods, like two different mods changing Geralt's hair color, because only one of them will work.

Hope it helps! If you have questions about a mod in particular, just ask and I'll try to explain where to put it.
