Timeranger
:wallbash: On any type of save I do, auto, quick, or hard save the game CTD.Ive check my load order, ran FO3edit (no problems there) and check my fallout3.ini fileI'm using a custum race (skinny-6). I've had this happen before on other toons and after a while I cant load them with out a CTD :wallbash: any help would be nice Edited August 22, 2011 by Timeranger
quicksilverva
crash on save? go to mydocuments/mygames/fallout3/saves and see if theres any .tmp files. if so, then those saves are corrupted. delete all files associated with the .tmp (save.fos, save.fos.bak, save.tmp) run fo3edit masterupdate mode to prevent ctd on saves. you can also try killing yourself in game and forcing it to reload the save. many people have said that way has fixed the issue. i also recommend using some form of autosave manager

Having the same issue here Time Ranger. Always crashes on any save, tried disabling all mods making a clean actual hard save, then re-enabling all mods an going forward didn't solve the issue. Tried unistalling/re-installing no fix aswell. Googled looking for some insight and found out about the killing yourself work around, though it worked...it seemed like a temp/quick fix the problem would resurface later on. I did as quicksilvera suggested and found that all of my hard/actual saves and autosaves were (.fos , .fos.bak) as they should be, but one of my quicksaves was the dreaded ".tmp", deleted that and reloaded from a hard/actual save fixed the issue for a time. About 30m of game time later and quicksaving every 5m or so I crashed again, looked immediately at my saves and the quicksave had once again shown ".tmp" so the issue seems to be re-occurring intermittently. Just now I ran FO3MasterUpdate (2 mods had errors so they have to remain .esp). From past experience, every time I experience a crash in Fallout I go to my event viewer (win7 64bit OS) and see if I get any insight. Below is what I got. Faulting application name: Fallout3.exe, version: 1.7.0.3, time stamp: 0x4a40f18bFaulting module name: Fallout3.exe, version: 1.7.0.3, time stamp: 0x4a40f18bException code: 0xc0000005Fault offset: 0x002d37ecFaulting process id: 0xfecFaulting application start time: 0x01cc61aede923492Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Fallout3.exeFaulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Fallout3.exeReport Id: 2e140ac4-cda2-11e0-8d96-1c6f65c924ce The exception code tells me its memory related, running memtest after this and my video drivers are up to date (even rolled them back to see if it was the new driver). Thinking our issues are related kinda wondering what if anything your event viewer says. Machine specs:Windows 7 64-bit Home Premiumi7 3.4ghz8gb DDR3Nvidia GeForce 560 TI edit: Come to think of it, everything was running smooth until I edited the timescale via the console. Googled that and only time folks were running into issues was at the extremes i.e 1. I was running it at 6 so don't think thats the issue but not something to count out just yet. Thinking our issues are related kinda wondering what if anything your event viewer says.Well I'm running Windows XP and couldnt find it in my event viewer. I do have Smart ram running and all CTD, 98% anyway are from Memery spikes, and show that i only have around 500M unused at the time of the CTD. I am planing on upgrading my Memery here in the next week or two, and Im hopping that helps
quicksilverva
toolfan9284: dont use quicksave, its highly bugged. either keep doing a hard save or use an autosave manager such as CASM, and when you deleted the .tmp, did you delete the .fos and .fos.bak associated with it as well? toolfan9284
toolfan9284: dont use quicksave, its highly bugged. either keep doing a hard save or use an autosave manager such as CASM, and when you deleted the .tmp, did you delete the .fos and .fos.bak associated with it as well? I generally do a hard save every hour or so, coupled with the autosaves from fast travel and zoning in/out of places. Quick save is only for when I'm in a building or running around. I'll have a look at CASM, thanks for that. As far as the .tmp file goes, I only deleted the file that ended with .tmp. Had been playing with no issues whatsoever for about 1.5hrs (Aside from physically cringing IRL everytime I saved of anykind), only stopped in to see if there were any replies. Didn't think of deleting the .fos and .fos.bak associated with the .tmp, makes sense now that you mention it. Just did a quick check of my saves files and no .tmp files amongst them. I'll grab CASM and will update if I have any other issues. Thanks. Edit: memtest turned up clean in case you were curious.
