An error.

Hey guys, i am having a big problem with my game.

 

It seems that after the default 'Bethesda' screen, the 'loading' screen is pure white, with the words 'loading...' at the bottom.

 

Then when it gets to the main screen, where you select the game, The 'Oblivion' title is just a wide rectangular patch of white.

 

The mouse cursor itself is just a white box.

 

I didn't think it would be unbearable, however, when i select a new game, i can see the race menus fine, but i cannot see the character, the jail, or anything, just blackness.

 

There are currently no modifications whatsoever installed.

 

Could it be a problem with my version of OBSE? I needed it to install Deadly Reflexes 3.3 which crashes my game, even though it is compatible with every modification i had installed.

 

Any ideas?

The way you wrote your text I suppose you could play before, so it may not be your graphics card (first thing I could think of, missing shaders sometimes turn the screen white) unless it is still okay. ^^"

And if there's no mod installed... and even NO Patch, then you should patch your game first, OBSE requieres either 1.1.5.11, or the new 1.2. Read something on OBSE's page, you can check the patches which are incompatible there.

If it could be nothing I mentioned... try re-installing Oblivion. :S

Just because it hasn't happened before, doesn't mean it can't be the graphics. I used to have an old Nvidia 3D Prophet something-or-other MX (forget the exact one), and that used to do that kind of thing every now and then- I think it was something to do with buggy graphics drivers.

 

Anyway, what graphics card do you have? Try getting the latest drivers, and latest Oblivion patch. If that doesn't work, and Oblivion supports software rendering (I can't remember if it does or not), try using that instead of Direct3D hardware acceleration.

 

Finally, if none of that works, try reinstalling your game. Might not do anything, but it's always worth a try ;)
