Mineral, VA Earthquake

About a half an hour ago a magnitude 5.9 earthquake happened in Mineral, Virginia, which is quite rare on the East Coast. I felt it all the way up in the Philadelphia area, but I heard is was felt much farther away. At first I felt like the wind was rocking my house, but I heard no wind and assumed it was a small earthquake. So I was wondering, who else from the East Coast felt it?

Well I live in Charleston, West Virginia (about 4 hours away from there) and my husband called me after it happened...it was felt here...but I...*cough*..slept through it. >.>

LOL

So I guess I am just a really deep sleeper.

Yes it is very rare and this is one of the largest in this area. It is was the geologist call a "warm spot" meaning there is the occasional little shake. Fortunately the epicenter is pretty much rural community and farmland..no major cities but Richmond, Virginia is very close so I suspect there will be some structural damages. None of the buildings around here are reinforced so most of the damage won't be spectacular to behold, but foundations and water pipes things like that will be effected.

So....Shake, rattle and roll everyone. Hope everyone is okey dokey around there.

That is really odd, as I just heard that the largest earthquake in more than a hundred years just hit in Colorado on Monday night. Think it was a 5.3 magnitude. To the best of my knowledge no damgage has been felt. Hit a town called Trinidad. It was felt in Kansas and here in New Mexico. Don't know too much more, other than the fact that Colorado is normally fairly earthquake free. Although this little area near Trinidad does sit on some sort of fault zone (according to Google)....

I heard about that too, although I read that there was minor damage in southern Colorado/northern New Mexico. I'm half-expecting more earthquakes to happen, probably somewhere in the Mississippi River watershed, since that is in the middle of the U.S.

There really is no correlation as far as I am aware. Though I am sure the Doomsday Brigade will be right on top this one.

If its the end times...I darn well better not have slept through part of it! LOL
