Ghoulz
I found some hairs I like but dds textures are not set in a normal white tone. Can I simply fire the dds in GIMP or w/e, change, save, and that's it? :psyduck:
Keirgarth
Pretty sure knowing the dds plugin for photoshop as I do that you would also need to know the settings to correctly save the file once you have changed it. There are a lot of different ways to save a dds file. You would also obviously need the plugin from nVidia to save in dds format. For example, you could save with alpha, without alpha, with 4+ mipmaps, etc. Edited August 23, 2011 by Keirgarth
Rabbit1251
This is a good question and one that I would be interested in hearing providing that it doesn't require a college course to learn. Rabbit

Ghoulz
I already have a dds plugin for GIMP. Im just wondering if you need the format to be exact for it to work. I had to deal with this for another game, where it was really fickle about format, or the texture wouldn't look right ingame.

Ghoulz
Doesn't help much when you don't know what format hair textures should use...
wetblanket
There isn't that many choices - try some and see. Quicker than waiting for someone to spoonfeed you ;)
David Brasher
On my machine, I can use all sorts of .dds formats made by GIMP. They just yield higher resolution or lower resolution. The formats I cannot use involve compression. Those make my textures render as black or invisible although some people claim to be able to use them. So just grab a format in GIMP and use it. It will most likely work when you play-test.
bencebence
If it's the normal texture then DXT3, if it's a normal map, DXT3 too, if it's a glow map then DXT1.
