CTD when loading a savegame from within the game

Hello

 

I have two major problems with my oblivion installation:

 

1) Whenever I load a savegame from within the game (ie. quickload or die and then load any savegame) it crashes to desktop every single time without fail. So whenever I die or have to load something, I have to exit the game, restart it and then choose the correct savegame from the main menu.

 

Obviously this is fairly annoying on my lvl. 1 high elf character with no added resistance to fire when cleaning out Oblivion gates....

 

I have a bunch of mods installed, and it wasn't like this to begin with. However I can't recall the order I installed things in, so I can't really say which mod might be causing this. I use the newest obse, wrye bash, omm and BOSS (btw BOSS wants to load my weather mods right at the top, but from my knowledge from fallout weather mods should be loaded in the end. Don't know if that's normally the case with oblivion too). Here's my load order from omm (got a few other "non-esp/esm" omods installed - texture packs etc):

2) Some monsters are invisible, which is super annoying. Nothing worse than getting killed by a stunted scamp you can't see:-( I did some detective work, and it might have to do with OOO (I used the .exe installer) and compatibility with other mods. I got some of the "WTF I'm missing a mesh" things too - I think I narrowed it down to be only items of "rusty iron" quality. Any clues on how to fix the missing meshes and invisible monsters without doing a complete reinstallation?

Actually, I am surprised the game will load at all..... you are missing a fair bit of an FCOM install...... I would recommend uninstalling the game, and reinstalling outside of the program files directory, and follow one of the guides for installing FCOM. I think you missed a few steps....

In addition to what HeyYou said, make sure you only have one version of the Natural Weather plugin ticked in your load order at a time. Either the HDR version or the non-HDR version. A great alternative (and probably a slightly superior mod in general) is All Natural, but All Natural is a little more complex to install and eats up a lot more CPU power than NE.

Both of the previous posters are correct in what they are suggesting, and I have just reinstalled FCOM so I have a fair idea of what should be appearing in the load order :) As far as BOSS wanting to move around the weather mod, I would trust BOSS to have a fair idea of where things should load. If the weather mod doesn't work after BOSS sorts the load order, then try and move it around, but trust it first.

Awesome! I of course DID install outside of the evil windows folders, and did install all of FCOM, but only checked some .esp's that I thought necessary. Weather mod works just fine, it is just the fallout modding community is quite fanatical in stressing the point of loading weather mods in the end.

 

I installed "FCOM_Convergence_Beta9.9" through Wrye, and I only checked boxes relevant to my installation (ie I didnt check any of the fran stuff, warcry and bobs armory). I just went to the site and had a look at the optional add-ons, and there was nothing for any of my other mods. I just unpacked the .rar again, and I can see there is a file called "FCOM_OscurosOverhaul.esp" in the "FCOM Optional Add-Ons" folder, but there is no mention of this specific file in the readme. And considering the "mission statement" of FCOM Convergence, you would think that anything needed for OOO would definitely not be in a folder for optional stuff, right?

 

Lol in short: What am I missing exactly?

EDIT EDIT: Hey! I just had a thorough look at the FCOM: Convergence site and it says I need MMM 3.7 beta, and my file is called something 1.70, so I am gonna update that and see how it goes. I'll write here again if/when this works.

Ok removed OOO, MMM and FCOM and followed the guide for FCOM meticulously, also downloading the newest version of MMM and the beta patch for OOO as the guide said. Removed a few other mods too. Things seem exactly the same though. Havent checked with the rusty iron meshes nor invisible monsters, but i still crash whenever I load a savegame from within an active game. My load order now looks like this:

Put it through BOSS and it doesn't recognize the last 3 plugins, but they all work fine in this load order.

Are you having the issue with a new character loading an old save, a new character loading a recent save of the new character or any combination? I have read that if you are trying to load an old save that you may have to use a function in Wrye Bash to fix the saved games before you can load them. I am no where near an expert on Wrye Bash so have no clue about that option.

With both. I did use wrye to fix my savegames, and made new savegames after loading the ones i fixed with wrye, so that shouldnt be the issue. Anyways after fiddling about with this stuff, my oblivion is now completely broken:-( I guess it's another reinstall. Or actually, I can't be arsed. Modded games are fun, but spending 2 hours tweaking for every one hour of gaming is just silly. Thx for all the input though.
