machstix34
I used mods for Oblivion at my friends house and loved it. I want to get it, but also want to get the direct download version of the game. Will the mods still work with that?
micalov
Do NOT get the direct to drive version, its exe is encrypted and most the better mods require something called OBSE, which is not compatible with it because of this reason. If your going to download, get it from steam, it fully works with OBSE and everything else.

MShoap13
Ok, but would you recommend just getting the disk version? That's completely up to you, the Steam version works fine but it requires you to have Steam installed :yucky:. Make sure you install steam to somewhere like C:\Games instead of \Program Files\ if you're on Vista or 7 as Windows UAC causes all kinds of problems with modding Oblivion. Keirgarth
Getting the disk version will save a couple of headaches down the road. For instance using steam usually places your game into the program files folder. In Vista and Windows 7 this could be a problem if you plan on using mods. There are other issues with file dates that can come up. The disk version has the original dates, the steam version's dates are a lot newer and causes issues with some mods so takes a little more work to get mods working. HeyYou
I much prefer the disk version to any other variety.
