ModelV
Well all the gameplay improvements for NV come from FO3 mods, so I would have to say FO3 is a much better game. You had far more immersion and depth in it than in NV where the world just feels unreal, and NPCs/Factions not very relateable. Really? Cause ive attempted to recreate all the mechanics of NV on F3 with all the mods that they "ripped off" and its never even been close...
minngarm
most of that is done with WSE MMM and caliberX As for the faction one I havent looked into it yet but i wouldnt be surprised to find one there.

DT? I'd be surprised if there was any mod that implemented DT vs DR in Fallout 3 the way it works in FNV... And that's just the most obvious difference gameplay wise between FNV and F3. Unholypaladin
Fallout 3 is in fact better than new vegas for a number of reasons, however new vegas does have some things better than fallout 3, although in total fallout 3 is a better game. Heres a list of some of the reasons WHY fallout 3 is better Voice Acting:In video games, voice acting is rarely a big decider, however in this case the voice acting in new vegas was TERRIBLE! The characters sound like they are reading off of a sheet of paper, and sometimes they even sound bored while doing it. When i first heard sunny smiles speak i just lost all faith in the game, right than and there. Fallout 3's voice acting was actually believable, i wouldn't say its the greatest but i never noticed any flaws, as i said i don't usually put much emphasis on it, but new vegas is probably the worst voice acting in a video game i have ever heard. Karma vs. Faction system:I enjoyed the karma system in fallout 3, lets face it if you went out and slaughtered a whole village and than had a bunch of slavers start calling you a badass for it, well you pretty well felt like a badass. Or the opposite if you went out and helped a lot of people you got treated like a hero, and really that was one of the fun things about fallout. In new vegas however, the faction system robbed you of that. Especially with the major faction choices, if you picked one over the other the game just made you feel guilty about it, like you betrayed somebody. It was like no matter what i did I felt like someone was mad at me, and basically it just wasn't as fun as in FO3 The World Map:The map in FO3 was generally better than the one in new vegas, In FO3 you could be walking around and than suddenly be standing in front of an American monument you recognize from tv, or have actually seen if your an American (I'm Canadian XD) and the real problem comes from the fact that Fallout new vegas had a lot of interiors that looked almost IDENTICAL to FO3, so basically it didn't feel like anything knew, if you have seen FO3 you've seen New Vegas, that's pretty much the feeling i got. Cloning:New Vegas didn't really feel like a new game to me, it felt like i was playing a massive fallout 3 mod. If you went through the geck you could see that is really what it was. A large percentage of the items were just ported over from fallout 3 without changing much. sure they added a few new items and things but all in all they didn't start from scratch, they just took an already made game and changed it, really it felt like a massive overhaul mod rather than a brand new game! Story:Although i never actually beat new vegas, i can already say that the story for fallout 3 was better, who wasn't like "WHOA THIS IS COOL!" when they first started fallout 3. The beginning of FO3 was a work of art, and how they incorporated learning the controls so subtly into it, it actually made sence, Your a freaking baby, your suppose to waddle around like an idiot when you first start walking, so if you have never played a game before than it didn't make you feel so out of place. and really it was pretty cool growing up and things. And i don't usually like tests that much, but lets face it, the GOAT was hilarious XD. New Vegas: Oh you got shot in the head, psychiatric evaluation and done. Oh and your a courier, not some dangerous vault escapee that just turns out to be FREAKING AMAZING. Although to be fair New vegas did have its features that really should have been in Fallout 3, and really thats why i still appreciate new vegas, for example: Iron sites:Yes there are iron site mods for FO3, but nothing can really beat that actually put in the game by the company, Plus in New vegas, the iron sites worked on mod weapons as well, it was really sad that they never made it into FO3 Hardcore mode:It was a fun little feature that I enjoyed, I liked the idea of being able to immerse myself, although i wasn't a big fan of ammo having weight. New vegas city:Although It hadn't really lived up to what i expected I had a lot of fun in the City of new vegas, it was fun roaming around and gambling and what not. Weapons:I liked some of the weapons in new vegas, for example the chainsaw was pretty cool, and stuff like that... well thats pretty much it, I can't think of much else, however personally i did find fallout new vegas fun, it really did not live up to the giant of a predecessor it had. Fallout 3 will go down as one of the most epic games of the decade, where as new vegas was alright. On its own New vegas was a great game, but it cannot compare to Fallout 3. Unholypaladin
I got Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition with all expansion packs as a gift for Christmas a while back. Heard about it. But didn't really get my attention. So it sat for almost a year with brand new plastic wrapping on my tv next to the XBOX 360. I had been playing Oblivion for years on the XBOX 360 and had just completed my billionth play through. LOL. And was broke and couldn't buy any new games. So there was Fallout 3. So I was like what the heck I'll try it. First thing I noticed is that Bethesda made it. Same people that made Oblivion, so it got my interest a little more. Needless to say, I started playing it, and stayed up until 3 AM that first night and had to work the next day at 6AM. Called in sick. Played all day. Didn't eat. Sat in my pajamas. Playing Fallout 3. That sounds familiar XD literally the same thing happened to me, I thought fallout was gonna be like... well I thought it was gonna be a futuristic single player FPS with hours of mindless shooting. I was quite happily surprised XD
audioave10
I like them both because of the open-world playstyle. However, FO3 is still my favorite and has many more quality mods to try.I keep going back to it. I love to try the weapon mods. roadbum
I think Fallout 3 is a lot better than New Vegas simply because you don't have to screw around with Steam. I played the Hell out of FO3 then played New Vegas until problems caused by certain mods and the fact that I only have dial-up caused me to delete the game and everything associated with it totally off my comp, now it's just FO3. I like the storyline a little better in FO3, I can play characters in alternate starts and not feel bound by the quests, I didn't get that feeling in New Vegas, things feel more scripted there.I refer to New Vegas as"Howard Hughes versus the Roman Empire".I dunno, there were some things about New Vegas I liked, but for the most part I didn't think the storyline really made any sense. FO3 has problems with it's storyline as well, but things make more sense than in New Vegas.
zegh8578
I prefer Fallout 3's story and setting but admit that NV has a thousand times better dialogue. Asking which one is better is total nonsense. The world is not so black and white that everyone must choose only one. I for one started with Fo1 and enjoy all the Fallouts rather equally, sans Tactics and FOBOS. actually I just wanted to see if I was the only one who felt like FNV was seriously lacking, pointless yes but i was bored. I don't hate new vegas I was just disapointed I didn't realize untill recently it was made by a different team, it shows. different team = original team the more i read about how much people hate FNV, and especially the reasons they hate it, the more i cry myself to sleep at night, wanting it on my computerdesolate = i want itempty stretches = i want itlooks like a 3rd world country? = give it to me :(
ModelV
You missed a really good deal for it on steam then :/
wolverinetree
How is this even a debate? Fallout 3 hosts much more originality and depth than NV. I've played both LITERALLY 100's of times, so I'm not talking out of my ass. Wandering around in the Wastes with 4 bullets in your hunting rifle and some iguana bits hoping to not get killed by raiders and hoping you find a civilization is SO much better than killing a few Jackals with your gun you got from Goodsprings and heading overto the strip to stock up there on ammo and heavy weps and raping the Wasteland. *whew* <3 FO3
