Same issue over here, and my computer runs New Vegas and Skyrim on the highest graphics settings with no slowdown. It's the game, not the machine. I have been looking for over 6 hours now on how to get this to work. Honestly, I have come t o the conclusion, that Fo3 is not made for new computers. But in hopes that I am wrong, and that some one does posts something on here on how to stop the freezing, Ill digress my negative attitude and explain my problem. Fo3 seems to give me a false premise of assurance, in the fact that it will not freeze for up to (longest) 25 minutes. The (shortest) 10 seconds before, only happens now and then, if I try to keep playing by closing out and re loading it. I have tried the .ini solution, the patch, the disable that and enable that, I have tried everything the internet has to offer. Still nothing. I have however looked into my event log and found this... But I do know this, when the circle doesn't go in the circle shaped hole, it could be, because you are trying to put a square in it. If it doesn't work it won't. I hope this is not the case, and I hope someone else can fix this. Hell Ill even put in 10 dollars just to get it fixed. So please... Someone, anyone, who ever you, the fixer of all things that will not work properly. Come to this forum and throw your knowledge of whats it, and hows that. Since most of you say you have new computers, do you by any chance have more than 2GB of RAM? If so, try the following: Get CFF Explorer, it's a program that allows you to modify executables, in this case Fallout3.exe, and install it. Go to your FO3 installation folder (where Fallout3.exe is located), make a folder and copy Fallout3.exe there, as backup. Now, go back to the instalation folder, right click Fallout3.exe and select "Open with CFF Explorer". When CFF Explorer opens, select File Header in the left-side column. Then, under Characteristics line, select "Click Here" (just click it). A new window will open up where you need to check the box next to "App can handle >2GB adressest". Click OK, go to File/Save and save over the original. What this does is, it lets FO3 use more than 2GB of RAM, for newer computers. I'm mentioning this because FO3 tends to freeze when it hits 2GB of RAM without it set to use more. Since most of you have new computers you probably set the game to high graphics settings, it needs more ram, hits the 2GB limit and freezes. My "Freezing" problem was eventually sorted out with audio codecs [HERE] , but when my rig [2500k/570gtx/8gb ram/Win7 64bit] would freeze, it felt like it was running out of Ram!? Remember back in the day BF2 and the difference a high end GPU with 2GB's of ram as opposed to the traditional 1GB ram would make on high end machines. Wished I would've checked to see if in fact it was only using 2GB when it would freeze? @Foxxing ... I feel your frustration, I almost through in the towel several times :O hang in there ... I know you've tried everything under the radiated sun ... but a couple of other simple tips that became part of my solution were to install FO3 in it's own folder NOT the default "Program Files (x86)" folder and make sure all your "Auto" save features are turned off ... save files get corrupted all to quickly unless you manually save :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

One of the big problems that stems from Fallout 3 is that it installs a beta of Microsoft .NET Framework, which (apparently*) plays havoc with your video drivers, especially (apparently*) if you're using a GeForce card. Once you've got Fallout 3 installed, uninstall ALL versions of Microsoft .NET Framework. Do a quick clean and registry fix with CCleaner (or whatever appropriate tool you have on your computer) and restart your computer to make sure it's all gone. Then, reinstall your Microsoft .NET Frameworks (easily done via Windows Update). It's worked more than well enough for me, so hopefully it'll work for a few other people too. *apparently - stemming from what I've been lead to believe from various online sources. Could you tell us what file you are looking at for this? Because in both Fallout.ini (located in the Fallout 3 folder under "my games") and Fallout_Default.ini (located in the Fallout 3 folder under "steam/steamapps/common/fallout3goty") the majority of those settings DO NOT EXIST.
