[Help] Fallout 3 Installing mod

Hi Nexus community,

Installing mod in Oblivion was fairly easy to me. I thought that install mod in Fallout would have been the same thing, but I figured out it isnt.

After like 1 hour playing vanilla I decided to install some mods. I started with the Error Fixes mod, than the Fallout 3 Masterfix, than the weapon mod kit.

I also had to install along with theese the FOMM and the FOSE.

After starting up Fallout 3 my game kept crashing. I solved this issue deactivating all mod from the Fallout start menu.

I really want to know :

- Wich patch shall I be using to install mods ( I currently use 1.7, but I found out that this might be the problem)?

- What are the mods that work as ground for others ( E.g. FOSE or FOMM etc.)?

I always found a solution consulting this forum, please help me ;)

Did someone say master fix? :biggrin:

Anyway, if you have the master fix mod, the error corrections mod becomes redundant, because it's already integrated into the master fix mod, so kick out that one.

Did you install any other mods besides those? Could you please post your load order?

Be aware that the master fix plugin needs to be loaded last no matter what.

Why do you think the 1.7 patch might cause a problem? You should definitely keep it. Especially since just about all newer mods are designed to run with the 1.7 patch.

Well, actually FOSE and FoMM are tools, not mods. If you're running any mods that require FOSE however, then you might want to try the Fallout Stutter Remover plugin for FOSE.

First of all thanks for the reply, cant believe that a team member of the Master-fix mod came to my aid :D

Since you asked for my load order: See post after this

X Error Fixes v1.4 - higher FPS.esp

X Fallout 3 master fix.esp

V Fallout.esm

X Weaponmodkits.esp

X = not selected

v = selected

As you can see no other mods were installed, but the Weaponmodkits

But there is an exception I had to do for the Weaponmodkits. I had to use as instruction said a tool called "FO3Edit" that tool didnt run quite well and after it loaded, and I gave the ok it was showing a wierd error, so i just decided to quit it and try out the mod without the "merge patch".

Now that merge patch attempt might be the problem, but the point is that I never even started to create the merge patch all I did was running the FO3Edit tool.

Forgot to mention the reason, I'll do it now. First of all when I played oblivion in order to make mod work I had to start the game with the Oblivion Script Enhancer. So I figured out that Fallout would have been the same, and had to start the game with the FOSE.

So i downloaded FOSE but I found this advice in the mod link

FOSE v1 does not have support for the latest 1.7 Fallout patch. To use this version, download FOSE v1.1 beta 9 or later.

I couldnt find the v1.1 beta 9 so I just installed the newest version.

Well, actually FOSE and FoMM are tools, not mods. If you're running any mods that require FOSE however, then you might want to try the Fallout Stutter Remover plugin for FOSE.

I will for sure try that out

Now I'll try deleting the Error fixes v1.4, because as you said it's useless with the master fix. Than I'll apply the plugin for FOSE and hope I wont have any problem running the game ;)

The game itself run perfectly without any mod selected in the Data Files list

Alright as you can see I deleted the load order I shown above because it was actually the load order from the data files on the launcher.

This is the exact Load order from the FOMM

V Fallout.esm

X Error Fixes v1.4 - higher FPS.esp

X Weaponmodkits.esp

X Fallout 3 master fix.esp

X = not selected

v = selected

As you can see I had already placed the Master fix at the bottom after I had installed it

Ah, I think I see the problem. You don't have any DLC's. The first version of the master fix was only meant to be run with DLC's. Download the version saying: "Fallout3 Master Fix 1-0rev1 NODLC"

You should also update your FoMM to the latest version. Latest version can be found here: Link

As for FOSE: The latest version of it (1.2) is compatible with the 1.7 patch. Download it here: Link

About the weapon mod kits: I really don't see why you should make a merged patch for just 1 mod, so you can disregard that.

Now that merge patch attempt might be the problem, but the point is that I never even started to create the merge patch all I did was running the FO3Edit tool.

Yes, but a merged patch is made via FO3edit. How? Load up FO3Edit. Wait for it to finish, then right-click in the left window, select "Create Merged Patch", give it a fancy name and done.

If you do, please be aware that you have to de-select the Master fix mod first before making a merged patch. It's highly recommended that you do not merge it.

Alright so I'm deleting the DLC Master fix.

I also installed more mods and without the Masterfix enabled all the mods were running perfectly.

It's a bit off topic but since you're here I'd like to know if I can install the unofficial patch now, after I upgraded my Vanilla Fallout 3 with all the mods I installed.

If I'm not wrong it should collide with all the mods files making issues of my game right?

Of course. The master fix mod doesn't "fix" anything found in any mods. Instead, it fixes errors that were present in the Vanilla game.

Personally I have no idea why you would even want to install it. If you have the latest (1.7) patch for your game, then I don't see much reason why you should install the unofficial patch too. The whole point about it is that it was created before Bethesda released their latest official patch themselves. There are of course things that the unofficial patch changed that were not changed in the official patch, but those are few and far in between.

Nevertheless, If you do wish to install it anyway, then it probably shouldn't conflict with any mods you've installed.

Since I don't use the unofficial patch myself though, I am unable to help you with any further with that.

Alright thanks for making things clear Rampage ;)

I wont install the unofficial patch as it seems that I'm having no issues playing the game.

I downloaded the NODLC version of Master fix and thanks god it worked! Now my Fallout 3 works perfectly, I really cant find a way to thank you enough for all the clarification. If there is an endorse button for forum user well I'd be glad to endorse you for your help.

Well, if you haven't already endorsed the Master fix mod then endorsing it would be much appreciated. :thumbsup:
