LordFlashheart
Hi, I just have a couple of questions about the GECK, specifically, I want to change the stats (and models) of some weapons :) Now, I have the GECK, and I open the Fallout master file, find the weapon file (32. pistol say), make the changes I want, and then this is where I hit the problem... Obviously if I want to make the changes I have to save them don't I?... Where exactly do I find the Fallout 3 master file so I can save the changes? Or if what I've been doing is incorrect, how do I make these changes? Next.... When trying to modify an aspect of a mod I've downloaded (which is also a master file which relies on other masters) it says that I cannot open said master file, because doing so requires opening all the other masters it relies on, hence it aborts the load. Any way around this? Lastly, How do I find item ID numbers via the GECK? Is this possible? It's just I have an item from a mod I want to get without working for it (lazy I know, but I need to see if it works, and I don't want to waste my time working and then watching it not work on me) - this is actually dependant on whether I can sort out the above issue regarding the master file... Thanks!
JJacobs
when saving your mod you cannot save it as a part of fo3.esm but what you have todo is save it as an esp so you dont have to actually find the esm.
JJacobs
when saving just type in the name of what you want to call youre mod.
quicksilverva
the file you are looking for is Fallout3.esm As the above posts mention, you will save as a new plugin to load multiple masters: -my documents/my games/fallout3/geckcustom.ini -find bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=0 -change 0 to 1 -save in the gecks object window, expand the collapsed column to the left of the column "count". that will give you the form ids

This pretty much answers all of my questions. One last thing, just so I'm absoloutely crystal clear, we can't modify the masters themselves using the GECK, but when we modify them (the masters) we create new files in the load order which are then loaded as well as the masters? Where do I save these files then? Fallout 3 - Data? Also, will this be automatically installed then? No fiddling around with FOMM? Thanks!
quicksilverva
correct. any changes made to an .esm will be saved as a plugin (.esp), and saved to the Data folder. only time you will need to go into fomm will be to activate the plugin and to set your load order when your done with your plugin, and to launch the game

So I just install like any other mod? "Add file" - find it, file added, install... OK! Will give this lot a try tonight!
