Scratchy voices

this has happened on two different computers both very new (laptops capable of handling this game at high settings) with two separate Oblivion Discs(first one borrowed from a friend to try the game, second one GoTY on a bran new HP), most frequently in highly light areas and talking directly to NPC's. the voices are there, but they sound broken, sketchy, skippy, and scratchy, kinda like scratched music CD... it comes and goes, but its most of the time, some NPC's are worse and some it's not bad at all. this happens indoors as well as outdoors, but it's really bad mostly in direct duologue in any environment. the music is the same way, i have no problems with the graphics on high setting with AA2x, very little lag (thanks to low polly grass) i'm going to try lowering the audio acceleration but i have a feeling that might not help... has anyone else experienced this particular problem?

no i tried that, i dont have any mods that have sound that would conflict... what seems to trigger it is talking directly to someone, distant talking is just fine most of the time, its up close to someone's face... lighting seems to play a huge factor in it too, the lighter the area the worse it gets.... maybe the sound card cant keep up with the video card? it's a Gforce 7600 with 1gb memory (just for the chip) and 2gb ram... this is really killing the experience for me guys, can anyone help? i'm also running Vista and i'm unfamiliar how to change sound acceleration... it really sucks because i have to turn all the sounds down, music off... its getting worse : / ive switched to bloom lighting, if i turn the lighting off it seems to stop the problem, almost. i have to keep AA off too as that seems to make it worse... i'm tellin ya the computer can handle the graphics though, its the sound only, and the game configuration settings suck : /

YES, I have, I thought it was just my sound settings, but it only happened when I played Oblivion.

I recently reinstalled lately I don’t seem to notice it now.

After the first install I installed some updates & drivers (windows & sound), then I reinstalled Oblivion, this probably is the reason it’s better now.

i noticed it doesnt happen when its a fresh install... i do use a lot of mods but none that i think would mess up the sounds, better bodies and stuff like that... none that users report a lot of problems with. i think it should be fixed with a setting... but could it be mods?

Perhaps, if they have custom sounds/voice they might cause a conflict or something like that.

The best way to find if some mod is conflicting with another, is to systematiclly disable them one by one. Then you'll find the culprit sooner or later. Or you could try Mod Manager, I believe it was made for finding these kind of problems.

But trust me, it's a pain in the a$$ when you got to check over 110 mods....

The thing is, just because a mod doesn't mean to change something, doesn't mean it hasn't. For example, just looking at a cell in the CS marks it as changed; I wouldn't be surprised to hear it works similarly for sounds. If you havent done so already, get OBMM, and run the conflict detector. Any conflicts in red are serious, and could well be causing the problem. If that doesn't help, make sure you're loading all your mods in the right load order; some mods, like OOO and Frans, have to be loaded in a certain order to avoid conflicts with other mods.
