sworddragon
When i look around on the nexus some of the most polular mods seem to be clothing or so called "armor" mods which contain outfits which are unrealistic, unpractical and not protective at all.Yet they seem to be very popular:Oblivion is sadly having the worst of the half naked storm and i am kind of disappointed in the community that they prefer those mods over more realistic and better built mods.Could any of you explain why everyone loves those mods? Deleted472477User
In addition to the normal reasons which others will state, one reason I've encountered is that some males have ambivalent feelings towards the idea of strong, powerful females. So they bimbo-ize her with Skimpy Armor Mod #27 to make her less threatening to their ego. I am NOT saying ALL males do this, I am pointing out that it is a reason I have encountered in the past a few times. I have some other thoughts, but they might get me banned, so I'll stop right here. razorpony
I've often wondered why the Venus de Milo wasn't sculpted wearing full plate myself. RP

razorpony
I know when I make things that could be considered skimpy or sexy, I'm simply creating an outfit that I find attractive and pleasing to the eye. I don't make things specifically to fit into the Oblivion world, Oblivion is just something I use as a testing ground. It's very likely I would continue to mod and make models even if the game wasn't installed at all. I think Oblivion sees the most skimpy content for several reasons. 1 The game is 5 years old. This means that a lot of people own it by now and also a lot of mods have been made already. Mods that do something truly unique and different are slowing to a trickle and more modders are focusing on outfits. 2 The .nif format for Oblivion is a bit simpler to work with than for other games such as FO3 that use dismemberment. 3 The body replacers for Oblivion (in my opinion) just look better than those for other games. 4 Fantasy games inspire fantasy armors. Look at any D&D artwork for examples. RP
BarefootWarrior
I now use Oblivion as a learning tool rather then actually play the game and run around and explore. But, I do create mods and try them out, but as one poster already said...sex sells. It is a game after all and I'm not hard core about the genre, with exception of a new game I will stick with the setting of the game...for the most part. To be frank, the body mods, specifically, the Roberts male and female mods along with Slof are the best mods I have ever seen in a game, even now. Oblivion still looks better to me with the proper mods added, with possibly the exception of Witcher2, but even so, the bodies in W2 are not that great compared to oblivion...my opinion anyway. Besides, it is great fun to run around in your birthday suit swinging a sword... Oblivion is visually beautiful despite all three voices doing the VO's...guess ya can't have everything.
Heartcloud
F.F.S, not another BS topic like this. I thought there was a thread on non-revealing armor already? Why the hell are you on nexus then? Vanilla oblivion has tons of thick-coated armor that makes females look like muscle-machos, go munch on those. Too bad for you if you're insecure enough to stare at half-naked cartoons.

Too bad for you if you're insecure enough to stare at half-naked cartoons. Somewhere under his point is a pile of golden nuggets. I've been slaving away at a really ambitious mod for years, with a team. We've been posting and trying to raise some awareness about this project for quite some time, a project with immensely high production values and actual game content - but it takes less than 1 hour for said post to be buried pages beneath the most recent "why are my high heels not working" threads. It's a bit frustrating. It feels like a very shallow and insular community, who only still have Oblivion installed for their manga fantasies. Of course, not everyone is like this, hardly. But this kind of thing steals 99.5% of the attention, and real mods get buried all the time over it. If we didn't have a rock solid discipline we'd have given up - this "community" seems all but impenetrable. EDIT: And that goes for ALL Oblivion communities, not just the Nexus, by the way.
