CS mods and Windows 7

I'm writing here in hopes that the answer is already well known to what I've been experiencing.

I've modded quite a while in Oblivion under Win Xp Home, and had a number of successful player .esp files. I transferred my meshes, textures, and menu items after install from my desktop to a new laptop that runs under Windows 7. I've copied all relevant mod files to the Oblivion/|Data directory, and added them checked to the Data Files in the launcher. As a result, some work, some don't, and every player .esp fails to be recognized by the game. For better known examples, Alternative Start (starts you in the waterfront instead of the intro), Robin's Bow's and Arrow's and my homegrown mods won't work, neither will any new mods I created in the CS on this machine. Other mods do work, such as Capes and Cloaks, Retros fletching mod, Nascosto Isles, but every time I attempt to change one of the functional mods in the CS (to add some of my own content from a functional base), I get a strange "unable to save" message from the editor at times, at other times I can save the change, but it has no effect on the game (ie. I just dropped an elvin bow on the floor of Divine Elegance with modded stats & saved it to the Capes and Cloaks mod ... loaded it up and no bow was present).

Any suggestions? Do I need to get a copy of Xp and run a second OS, or is there a patch available? I knew Vista had its share of problems with Oblivion, but wasn't sure about Windows 7.

I've possibly solved my problem; I needed the latest patch lol. So forgive me ... I headed to the most likely place for some good answers, here, and posted away. It was a shot. Alternative Start works again, right after the patch install, but Oblivion crashed the first time thanks to some faulty mods in my list (I'm guessing). I'm running it in compatability mode for Xp with service pack 3. Now it's just a matter of weeding faulty mods out ...

You shouldn't need to run Oblivion in XP compatibility mode. I use Win7 64bit with no issues. Even older mods that were released before Win7 work perfectly. The only difference between XP and Win7 you need to be concerned about is UAC (User Account Controls). UAC will attempt to block changes to any files in the folders it protects. This means you don't want to install the game to the default filepath. Use something like C:/Games/Oblivion instead.
