List of Modding Artists and Request Thread...

Greetings boys and girls, It's been some 4-5 years since I was part of a decent modding community (on account of me going off to do my B.A Masters degree) and I think it's high time I returned to the scene with my newly acquired skills in tow ^^

I remember back in the days of Morrowind/Oblivion modding that the most frustrating thing ever was having a great idea for a weapon/set piece but not having the technical skills required to make it yourself, so I propose establishing a thread to showcase any artists in the community that are willing to take requests and/or work on larger scale projects, and also give people a space to post any requests for art they would like to see in general, or require for specific mods.

First things first, we will need to stick to some basic rules to ensure that this thread can reach it's potential and not get banned ^^

Da Rulez!

1: No nudity! - Yes allot of you want various mods for more adult material etc, but this is not the place to request it, it is one sure-fire way to get the thread blocked so just don't

2: Have some originality - As much as we all love some of the iconic scenes/weapons/armours/whatever from numerous other games and movies, please try to keep the ideas original, there is no faster way to lose an artist's interest than a post full of 20 people all crying out for "That sword from FF7!!!" To clarify I'm not saying don't request it, but if you see somebody has already done so and no artist has picked it up, please try not request it again, if you must at least keep it to a simple "+1"

3: Provide reference where possible - If you have a request it is always a good idea to provide reference images/footage/whatever you can get (keeping with forum posting rules ofc). The more reference material an artist has to work with the easier their job, and the better result you can expect

4: Be Nice! - I know this can be asking allot from internet forums XD but seriously, if any artists take take up your request they will be dedicating their valuable spare time to something you requested, for no particular reason other than their love of the modding community. If the final result is not up to your standards don't be a dick about it, try offer some constructive criticism and see if it can be improved. We artists are a sensitive bunch and if you don't want us to turn our backs on you...BE NICE! ^^'

I will try and keep an up to date list of all the artists taking requests here, if you want to be included on the list put up a post introducing yourself and including the information below...

UPDATE: There is also a sister thread running on the official forums: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1228014-list-of-modding-artists-and-request-thread/page__gopid__18531069#entry18531069

I might as well get this started by introducing myself ^^'

I'm currently working on some basic weapons/shields ATM (until we know exactly how the scaling of armour is going to work I think it would be a waste of time to work on armour since it may need to be constructed in a specific way to work in-game).

This is the Behemoth Sledge, based on a MTG weapon of the same name, just the mesh ATM since I have only had about an hour to work on it but I like where it's going ^^

This is my custom "Bright Shield", I always end up playing paladin style characters, and with the new mechanics for torches etc in Skyrim I had the idea of "If it's going to be all dark in the dungeons, I want a shield that will light the way!" So I plan to have the gem in the centre giving off enough light to see in the darkness (and possibly stun undead creatures on a shield bash but we shall see about scripting limitations on release) Again not textured but the mesh is pretty much finalised.

In terms of requests? I'm looking for some more good ideas for unique weapons/shields to make before the release of the mod tools so that I can have a nice weapon pack to mod in (as special weapons are always a great starting/ending point for quests). I'm also interested in any custom small to medium sized environment assets that could be key points of interest or quest items (such as altars/statues/crazy doors to another dimension). So yeah, if you have any requests let me know. ^^

Thanks fer reading!

Provide reference where possible. Someone could describe what they think with words without having to draw something, or can provide photos to give an idea of what they mean without it having to be that they actually do want Cloud's Breaker Sword from FF7. They could perhaps even give a similar idea to further clarify that they want "something kinda like that" - I for one have what I feel to be a cool addition to the game, but to really clarify it well...it would be best to provide screenshots from the game that inspired me. But it won't straight up be from THAT game.

If I may suggest something.........

I have one mod request. Fishing, the real thing. Not just the unrealistic "swim along, grab salmon with hand" approch that Bethesda went with.

Anyone who can make a fishing mod for skyrim, like the one from the Oblivion mod - NPCs with jobs, as demonstrated here in Sarkanders vids, is a hero in my opinion.

'Be eternally gratefull if someone could pull this off for Skyrim.

Bait aiming example

Catching a fish:

Add a pilotable rowboat to that and things would be getting pretty darn perfect me thinks.

Well reference imagery doesn't need to be completed pieces showing what you want an artist to make. When working in the industry you often have numerous images handed to you, so I could say for example (if I was making a new sword) I want something similar to the blade from this sword (Present image "X") and the hilt of this sword (Present image "Y") then the artist has a better starting point.

Reference images also convey much more than a paragraph of text can, for example I may be asked to make "A sword with a dragon shaped handle" but I could interoperate that in any number of different ways, the resulting asset could be wildly different from what the person had in mind ^^ It's not just an old saying, a picture really DOES speak a thousand words XD

If you have ideas post em ^^ I tried to clarify in the rules part that I'm not necessarily against re-creating items from other games/movies etc. When I brought up originality I was more meaning in terms of original requests, not necessarily original items themselves, so as long as somebody else hasn't requested it feel free to toss around any ideas. I just didn't want the thread to get bogged down by dozens of people requesting the same item ^^ (could probably do with clarifying the "Originality" rule as it seems to be causing some confusion XD

Once I get my idea together (very soon) I'll post it. It's not an item mod, but a gameplay/combat mechanics mod I'd say. But in the meantime, how will you be getting the word out so that we know the end result of each of our requests? [:

As a side note, I'm working already on the ultimate Gandalf mod. I've almost finished concept art for his staff (wooden and white editions) and Glamdring, as well as robes for both Gandalf the Grey and White.

Also coming up with a way to do an ultimate Balrog encounter (and gradually succeeding). I'll put a cave/door in at the foot of the throat of the world mountain which will lead down to the "foot of the world", where dwells the Balrog I figured I could implement a scripted event whereby a bridge would shatter if you cast a certain spell, which in turn would be attached to a staff and could only be cast if certain conditions are met (Balrog down to 50% health, both Balrog and Gandalf on a bridge etc.) Then, I'll just have fun trying to implement the falling. It's here I'm stumped. I could either have one of three options:

1. A constantly open portal to a new room, so that once you hit it, it instantly teleports you from falling to the top of Zirakzigil

2. Falling into a large lake (similar to what happens in the books and movies), then script the Balrog to run along a tunnel forcing you to chase it through a series of tunnels to Zirakzigil.

3. Option 2, but have any number of portals/doorways along the pathways to Zirakzigil, so as to break up the room, making it smaller and more manageable.

So, as a tag along to my putting myself out there as an artist and modder, do you think this is possible? I've thought out how I would do this (if it were Oblivion) and it all seems very doable. Plus, it already definitely provides support for large creatures (dragons) and it would just involve my creating a completely new mesh/texture to import into the game as a new creature. Scripting a path shouldn't be too difficult, and even the scripted event with the bridge won't be too difficult (though it might take a few patches to iron out the bugs). At any rate, I'll release the items themselves before I begin work on the Balrog quest (which I'm hoping will be a right of passage in a way. You start off by getting Gandalf the Grey's gear, and then have to defeat the Balrog to be reborn as Gandalf the White.

Anyway, sorry to rant :P In short, I'm a modder/artist with a helluvalotta free time, more than happy to take on some small projects here and there (and a big one if the right mod presents itself)

Looks like an interesting idea, Unfortunately until we can get our hands on the tools there isn't much we can do on that front :( Unless you are specifically requesting boats/fishing rod models? XD (these things might even be in the game anyway?)

I'll be updating this thread regularly with any progress on requests, as well as it's sister thread over on the official Skyrim forums http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1228014-list-of-modding-artists-and-request-thread/page__gopid__18528649#entry18528649

I'll also be updating via twitter, my blog and pretty much anywhere else I can XD
