Allana
I am very new to modding Morrowind, so sorry if this is a noob question. I have searched the forums & done Google searches but am not finding what I need. I am trying to figure out how to change entries that have already been placed in my PC's journal (existing savegame) & replace them with newer entries created in a plugin. Specifically, I am playing a German mod that has been mostly (but not completely) translated to English, so I went ahead & finished translating the journal entries that were still in German into English in the CS and have made a plugin with the new translations. I've tested it in my existing savegame, and new entries show up correctly with the new translations. Entries that were already in the journal, however, are still in German. It would be very helpful if I could force the updates so I can fix the new translations as I go along. I am not a German speaker, and Google translations are often not very accurate. While I was able to make reasonable translations for most of the entries by cross-checking against dialogue, there were some I had difficulty figuring out, so I plan to correct them once I get to that point in the game. Is there a way to force existing journal entries to update to the new English translations in an existing savegame? I'm assuming that this is the equivalent of a hotfix, but I have absolutely no idea how to go about it.
LegoManIAm94
I don't know of any way but you could try using Wyre Mash. And you may be able to fix your saved game but I could be wrong. If you don't have Wyre Bash download the stand alone version that is python free.
Allana
Thanks for the suggestion. I have Wrye Mash and went through both the documentation & the program itself. Unfortunately, while it does have a journal viewer that allows you to view the journal in a savegame, I don't see any way to update the journal contents. LegoManIAm94
You could make a the mod add different journal entries numbers. Example German Version 10-Ich habe einen Mann vor Schmerzen auf der Seite der Straße gefunden. English Version (Your current one) 10-I have found a man in pain on the side of the road. English Version (Changes) 11-I have found a man in pain on the side of the road. Change the number and try it. I know it may be a pain to go into the game and find every command that says journal QUESTNAME STAGE but that is the only way I can think of. Allana
That does look like a lot of work, though probably not more than what was required for doing the actual translation, and certainly a lot less difficult. But, if I decide to release my mod, I may have to consider it. I don't know if that approach will actually delete the existing German entries or simply add a second entry, so I'll need to test that. For now, though, I have found that I can change the entries in my existing savegame by using Enchanted Editor, which is what I'll do till I'm done with the game & have at least most of the translation bugs worked out. After that, well, TBD. Thank you very much. Edited September 10, 2011 by Allana
