Fallout 4 Won't Start "Already Running"

So whenever I crash from the game and I try to run it again, it won't launch anymore. On Steam it says that the game is already running, but nothing happens. So I end the fallout4launcher.exe process, but that doesn't seem to fix it. So far the only thing I can do to fix this is by restarting my PC, which I really don't wanna have to do every time that my game crashes. It wasn't like this before. I've tried everything I can think of(Disabling mods, running without F4SE, verifying files). Nothing seems to work besides restarting my pc.

Does this everytime? I've occasionally have had a CTD that required me restarting my computer but those were pretty rare. But I've never had a CTD and then tried restarting the game and have it tell me that the game was still running..... I've had what I thought was a CTD but turned out that another process took over (like maybe Windows Update or something) and the game was still running. I was able to get back to the game and continue. But again I've never seen what you are experiencing. For grins have you tried reinstalling Steam? Though I'm not sure if that would mess up all of your Steam game installs or not so maybe research that before doing so.

This never really happened before, but it did happen like 3x in a row, before I just stopped playing altogether and tried to find ways to fix it. I also tried reinstalling the game, but that didn't really help either. I'm gonna try again soon and see if it keeps making me have to restart.

I had this happen to me a few times. In my case, it was a bad Windows 10 installation from the factory. Re-installing Win10 solved that and other issues.

Just hit ctrl+alt+delete, then check processes, and it will be running in there. You'll find it in the list if you check which applications are using the CPU. My buddy is a tech wizard and he taught me this trick. Prior to learning to do that I was literally doing what you are doing and restarting my PC. Hope that helps.

Yes that works most of the time but not always. I've had times when my only option was to do a manual power off.
