haha, yeah, i actually looked up red sonia to make sure you didn't make her too! :)

but, back to the initial, Q. My opinion of essential (which heavily differs from most others) is limited to the UI mods and

OBMM

OBSE

I would consider a good UI one (i use Phinix Dark UI)

hot keys and spell delete is handy

i have recently got mouse cast, which looks very helpful (i haven't tried it yet)

a good map one, i cant remember, but i think i just used one called color map (hardly helpful i know, but there are a few)

Some people like the character managers too.

And streamline seems popular too for lower end machines

I'd start with just a few... and then make your own opinion

Hi all -

Im likewise new to oblivion and wanted to get suggestions on mods if at all possible.

After trying a lot of searches, failed attempts and reinstalls I quickly became overwhelmed and quite frankly, confused.

What I do have is OMOD, winzip and 7z for file extraction.

The mod's im using successfully are: exnem's female eyecandy and exnem's armor replacer - which both work fine.

I am running these on the retail, unpatched version of oblivion.

I really want to use Ren's Beautypack mod, but every attempt has failed

I really would also like to find a slick and sexy armor mod for the exnem's female and maybe a fun weapon mod.

Nothing over the top at all.

Ive heard a lot about oblivion 1.1 but cannot find it and understand that that might be the source of my difficulties?

Unfortunately my inexperience only results in failed attempts.

Perhaps there is a veteran out there who can direct me to the correct files so I can get started.

Thanks and have fun!

I don't recommend getting OOO, MMM or Frans on your first time through, because they drastically change the way the game plays. I think it's better to play the game without any mods that completely change the way the game works the first time you play. But it's all up to you. :P

I'm with Povuholo, don't install many mods, 3 max.

The one I would recommend is the Bag of Holding it is a cheat but you will love it.

It allows you to put things in the bag & carry it instead of all your heavy stuff.

Remember, you only need OBSE if a specific mod requires it. There is no need in telling someone to grab this if they do not need it..

Cheers!

Thanks for the information all. I am also a new player (played Daggerfall long ago and this is the first ES I've played since). I've played through once now and done most of the quests so I was thinking of trying some mods too. Honestly, the main thing I'm looking for is better faces (and possibly character models).

I don't know if I'm ready to update the entire environment yet, but I can see it happening on the next playthrough prehaps. If there are any recommendations for faces and NPC models I'd appreciate it. I've noted how popular the exnem body is - but I wasn't worrying about it since it's a nude texture (I'm married with kids and don't want to shock anyone if they walk past ;) ). However, I did note today that there is a version of it with underwear. I also gather that this mod denotes it works on female models (which is nice) but what about the male bodies?

I appreciate any advice / feedback you care to offer.

thanks!

For NPC faces there is Tamriel NPC's Revamped and some other minor ones. TNR replaces most NPC faces in the game, except Khajiit's. Younger Hotter NPC's Women replaces some, as you may guess, female faces.

For textures, two good ones are IFT and Natural Faces. Also Better Redguards for, well, Redguards. Facial Textures by Enayla is good too, but it doesn't touch the age textures, so should be combines with either IFT or Natural Faces.

For PC faces Beautiful People is pretty comprehensive. It combines a lot of separate mods.

These are just the major ones...there are plenty of others. Check out dev_akm's Character Texure page, it has some other good stuff.

there's been some great options posted so far, but most of them change the game play rules (which the initial post didn't want)

For pure aesthetics there is only one site worth visiting (and it got me back into this game after a year or so)

http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/obli...textureoverhaul

(shameless suck to the site owner)

I reinstalled a few weeks back due to some game breaking attempts at trying to be an Mod'er and Oblivion vanilla (original) is just plain ugly without Quals stuff - its a big download, but screen shot it before and after and be impressed.

This site has a range of other stuff like better looking food etc.
