Problem with the Fire column inside oblivion towers

im talking about the fire pillar you can see in the center of oblivion towers. not the trap.

it keeps crashing my game. i managed to get through a few towers only by avoiding looking at the fire.

i looked for a mod to remove it or something but no luck.

any suggestions please?

What video car do yo have ? --- I had a old FX5700le that would drop to less than 1FPS around them when the game first released due to shader implementation problems with the cards and IIRC the Refraction shaders that some of the flame effects used - If this is the problem there are a couple mods out there that disable the refraction shaders that might help.

now over 20 hours but it happened also when i was around 10 hours.

i dont think its a conflicting mods problem.

this crash was happening when i had only the unofficial patch and Oblivion citadel door fix mods installed.

today i installed the streamline mod and i think it helped a bit. now i have to look at the fire for a few seconds before it crashes so its easier to move around in the towers.

there is no drop in fps...just a sudden crash, and the pc restarts, not even crash to windows.

i had major fps drops when riding a horse but the quiet feet mod fixed that.

i dont have issues with other animations.

graphic card Geforce 9800 GT.

a mod that removes the fire column would be nice.

i'd like to mention that my pc isnt new anymore and it could be hardware related. since i have problems in some other games too.

and thanks for the replies.

A crash/restart indicates that it may not necessarily be an Oblivion problem. I suspect what is happening is, you are actually getting a BSOD (blue screen of death), but, your system is set to automatically reboot. So, you never see it.... You need to turn off the "automatically reboot" option, where you find it depends on what O/S you use. Google "automatically reboot *operating system*" and follow the procedure. Play the game, and go MAKE it crash. See what ya get.

I begin to suspect a video driver issue.
