Hello to all of my fellow Oblivion Lovers this is the very first time ive ever posted on forum, purely because ive finally seen ALL the mods there are to offer that appeal to me =D it only took a year and a half ...(haha). i am a lover of realism in my gaming. i am a medieval fanatic and in medieval times a MASSIVE advantage was gained when the Longbow was brought into warfare. Because waves of enamys would fall to the oncoming arrows... nyway ill shh with boring story n get to my point.

 

 

I am looking for a mod that adds a "Headshot" or Critically increased damage to any and all arrows. i play on low lvls purely because i mod a lot and the most fun for me is the climb to the top not the domination of all. i have added many mods that add dificulty to creatures,npcs and everything else that wants me to die.

and when i fight my bow its useless...in the end i have a few dead enamys with around 10-15 arrows in them and more living with similar numbers of arrows they look like hairs for got sakes... in no place will you see a bandit or a merc who can withstand more then 2-3 arrows at MOST yet mine just seem to get hairy lol and a headshot is just that... game over for the victim. both sides apply if im hit by an arrow or 2 id expect to die or atleast be on the balancing point between death and final breaths...

 

so im asking please any and all modders please help me finish my mod collection off =\ everyone focuses on magic and violent moves with sword but the humble bow is long forgotten.

Have you tried this: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11415 I have used it and it seems to add a bit to the archery classes. I believe there are also tweaks in the Wrye Bash's bashed patch you can make to enhance this mod a little.

Yes, i have tryed this mod but it really isnt for me.

It is something that outlines my ideal mod but still a mile off. to explain a bit better i mean that take for instance the movie robin hood with russ crowe a cook grabs a crossbow and downs a king because the shot was in a critial spot, not because he was a well skills marksman.

P.S. i have NO knowledge or experiance in modding oblivion in any way. all ive every done is change the effect and name of skooma to speed(respective effects) and made my favorite npc essential... and that took me about 3 hours lol =\.

No offense taken. Now that I understand what you are looking for, I will see if I can come up with any other mods that might help you out. I understand that you have learned that the long bow was the sniper rifle of the day and you want that to happen with your game.

 

I am curious about one thing. What settings do you use for your game? Have you moved the difficulty slider all the way to the hard, or all the way to the easy to see if those changes give your bow more realistic characteristics? If there isn't a mod out there for this, then if someone makes a mod and wants it to be realistic, then it should pay attention to area hit and take serious consideration into armor when calculating damage.

 

Cloth won't slow an arrow at all, leather only slightly, chain will stop blunt headed arrows but not slicing points and plate armor will make arrows useless unless they find the joining material or a head shot that manages to go where the opening is for the face. As to the realistic performance of the archer, the Ninja were the only archers in history that practiced as a whole to become so good that they could place the arrow into the slits of a plate helmet. Any other archers might be lucky, but not on a regular basis.

Have you tried Duke Patrick's Combat Archery? While not a "Small tweak," it sounds exactly like what you're looking for. You'll need to make an account at TESAlliance to nab it, but we're a friendly enough bunch :)

 

One thing though. Make sure to read the mod documentation. There's a lot that this mod does, and more importantly, almost all of its features are INI tweakable. Don't like the lethality of arrows? Change the multiplier! Don't like the backwards stumbling feature? That can be disabled. It's a great mod, and I really can't go back to default OB archery now.

i change it up a lot but i tend to play at 3/4 to hard and hard but i do also dab in a bit of moderate difficulty when exploring new mods or areas i havnt been and there is a lot of areas in vanilla i havnt masterd =D. Ive tried easy but its the same thing just less damage towards me. i love games that require skill in the player not skill in the stats. take for example MW2 or blkops or even counstrike i am well aware of the major dif in games but its all i can think of atm to explain this, i still peg a shot to a targets head from 300-400 yards with almost any weapon because i know where im aiming...the cherry is small but shes still there =D and it will pop dammit.

 

and if the target is wearing a helmet that covers the head and face then fair enough no headshot but i can still put 3-4 in the chest and they're gamed. no armor can withstand multiple hits in a very small area and not let the arrow penitrate. plus for plate targets i have my shortsword.

 

=D and im no ninja i would never be able to put an arrow through the slit of a visor or full helmet but when there is an opening i want to take it.

in all honesty i wouldnt mind if all arrows were rusty iron arrows with 1 dmg on them if i hit my target to the head he shouldnt really get up or continue to run at me lol :confused:

I am downloading the file from Eruditedragon's post. From the description it should fit the bill rather nicely. If you haven't looked at the description it will definitely make archery more difficult as far as getting the shot off, but also more rewarding once your arrow lands the blow.

YES this is VERY close to what im looking for a bit fancey n pointless with the additions i never carry more then 40 arrows and my sword + my leg armor the rest is clothes and apples xD my cap is always really low for more looties but meh,

 

only problem is ive read over the descript and its a dmg multiplier so there is a chance me putting an arrow into ANYTHINGS eye will just piss it off and make it come at me hahahaha xD
