Corakus
I think the games CAN be compared and here is why: Both are RPG's - Role Playing Games - And i feel that hands down Dark Souls/Demon's Soul's is/will be more immersive. There is something frightening about being alone in the tower of Latria and hearing the sound of a mind flayer ringing that bell. Not once in all of my play though of oblivion did i feel fear. This tells me that FROM's games are more immersive and pull me in in a way the elder scrolls games do not. A bigger world with more things to do does not make it immersive. Don't you think the main point of an RPG is to be pulled into an alternate reality so convincingly? The OathThe reason you felt fear is because Demon's Souls puts emphasis on extremely difficult enemies, if those enemies weren't difficult you wouldn't fear them at all, now would you?Of course not, why would you be afraid of something that doesn't present much of a threat?Even if it looks frightening, it doesn't do it much good unless it represents danger. So if you take away the difficulty of the game, the singleplayer doesn't have much to go on, the same can not be said about TES games. AltreU
Before I power leveled my first character in Demon's Souls, the only thing I was "afraid" of was losing time spent on progress, lol. There's no reason to compare the two. They were made for different audiences.
Bloodinfested
Seen a trailer a while back on it I wasn’t too wowed by it but I have never played a dark souls game so I can’t compare that to tes. I know it’s a linear game/non sand box and I find it extremely hard to play any linear games after I have been spoiled by Tes sand box games.. Now a more appropriate game to compare with tes is gothic but I say tes is better imo
Alcrin
Some elitists like to criticize Skyrim for being a game for console kiddies, casuals, etc. Wait wait wait, Dark Souls, the console-exclusive game, is the one that isn't designed for console players? :psyduck: I'm exclusively a PC gamer now, so I probably never will play Demon's Souls or its sequel, but I do have this to say: Part of gaming (a big part) is the adolescent power fantasy. If I wanted to be a tiny insignificant thing, utterly powerless against the impossible threats that surround me, and completely irrelevant to the larger scheme of things, I'd close my laptop because that's what I already am. Having the power to rip through the legions of hell with my bare hands feels good. A game that does this instead of making you weak enough to get insta-killed by a squirrel who brushes against your ankles is not automatically inferior. And honestly, Demon's Souls sounds like it's just trying to be a gimmicky, repetitive Roguelike.
AltreU
They're trying to bring that ridiculous challenge that a lot of older games had to modern, 3d gaming. It's a more risk/bigger reward kind of game. I hadn't been excited about playing a game before playing Demon's Souls in a long time. It feels a lot like D&D, too. The combat is brutal, yet requires tact (if you want to make it through a stage without dying that is...). I wish they had it for PC. If it had a mod kit, I'd be all over that. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/laugh.gif
dwellufool
I love both games, and look forward to Skyrim as well as Dark Souls. And for totally different reasons. I want to play Dark Souls for some action, and I want to play Skyrim for some roleplay and story, and the ability to make my own stories (moddin ya'll) They should both be good/great/etc games, but for the love of god, someone needs to remind the people who argue which is better what personal preference means. I agree and I think most people here do .. But Ive never played the DS games so I am more curious to why they are compared? .. I kept thinking I was missing something .. To compare Saints Row to San Andreas is fair .. To compare CoD to Battlefield is fair .. To compare Dragon Age to NeverWinter2 is fair .. But why in the world people are drawing the line from DS to TES makes no sense to me .. I'm noticing its mostly DS fans saying it too :/ .. One theory Ive read and am agreeing with is that DS was an underdog and the fans were trying to pump it up so a lot of them choose to compare it to oblivion simply because its a much bigger game.
