This is my first time using windows 7 64 bit and I'm needing help installing my mods. I thought it would be the same as the 32 bit version but either I'm wrong or I had a complete mind fart and I'm installing the mods wrong some how. After installing Willow, the only face I can use is willow's face now. I have no idea how I got her as a preset face. NMCs_Texture_Pack_For_New_Vegas isn't showing up at all and the same goes for the other mods I added including Anthony Lings Coiffure - Hair Eyes Lashes for FONV. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Did you disable the UAC? because if your game folder is for example C:\Program files\Steam etc then UAC could be a problem.

You do have the latest patch?

There is no difference in installing mods in 64 or 32 bit systems. Win7 (and Vista) both use Windows UAC to make things more difficult for viruses to get in, and to make it more difficult for mods to be installed. WinXP does not have UAC and is not a problem.

Steam just makes it worse by insisting that it be installed in the UAC protected Program files(x86) folder - which is the default Win7 64 bit place to put 32 bit programs. Simplest way to prevent UAC from mucking up mod installing - move (or install) games that allow mods out of the default Program Files folders.

I install all games to C:\Games\game-name. This allows each game to be in it's own folder and isolates them from each other. Steam is installed to C:\Games\Steam, and all steam games will automatically install there after it's moved from the program files folders

Steam actually allows this.

The page you linked to says that games must be installed under "...steam\steamapps\common". This is a pain for modding, since you often need to navigate these extra directory levels in file-open dialogs of different tools. You have said you install your games without these extra directory levels. When I install a game using steam (like FNV), it does not give me the opportunity to choose an install directory. Is there some special technique for this?

The link posted above says:
Since Steam relies on the game files residing in the SteamApps folder, your game files cannot be moved outside of this folder. The game files must be in the SteamApps folder in order to function.
So if there is some magic technique to put steam games at a top level directory, it would be handy to know. But maybe I misread "all games here ... all steam games there" and got a false hope. He probably means "all non-steam games go into c:\games\game-name"

yes

and the obvious magic

is to install steam

outside of the cursed default directory in the first place

or to follow the link provided

and move it

outside of the cursed default directory
