AlexxEG
So I had a ingrown nail, which made two... I don't know what to call it... pouches maybe? on each side of the nail. I went to a surgeon who removed them along with some parts of my nail, and then stitched it up. (3 Days ago) Now whenever I walk, the toe swells up causing a lot of pain. As far as I understood, this is normal. Is there a way to reduce this somehow? Atleast so I can walk around home. I normally have the leg elevated above heart level, so there isen't any pain then. Thanks^^
ginnyfizz
Double check this with your surgeon or another medical practitioner first, but one thing that you might try is a pair of flight socks, which will apply compression to the swelling. I get swelling sometimes due to my rheumatoid arthritis, and use the flight socks to control it.
AlexxEG
Hmm, I could try that later. I'm going back to the same surgeon in 3 days to take the other toe too, I could ask him to check then. Thank you. :) Edited September 19, 2011 by Alexx378
AlexxEG
I only have bandages near me atm, so I'm going to try to warp them around my foot (not the acutal toe.) and see if that helps.
HeyYou
Don't wrap too tight. Cut off circulation to the foot, and you will be an unhappy camper. Grab some ice, and a dish towel. Wrap the ice in the dishtowel, and apply it to your toe. Feels good, reduces swelling, and dulls pain. Worked good for me. (yeah, been there, done that.....) Thor.
Hey man atleast you didn't sprain your foot, My entire foot swelled up like a balloon at one point. the doctor said a sprained foot is worse then a brake because it takes longer to heal. It was a few weeks ago and it still acts up once in awhile. It'll take a good month before it goes back to normal. Edited September 19, 2011 by Thor. I just want to be able to walk to some extend. :P

When it starts to hurt/swell etc again, just repeat the process.
