chikawowwow
New vegas installed from the disk for me, before I bought it I downloaded steam from steam site and got everything ready so I could just insert the disk and press install, the only download was the update. If it downloads skyrim even with the disk I swear I´ll go to the store and just ask my money back, doesn´t make sense spending 50 euros on a disk just to install steam -.-I never had any problem with steam for now, new vegas works great with all the mods I use and all DLC work great apart lonesome road that conflicts with NVSE for me but that´s not steam problem, I still wis skyrim could be non-steam I don´t like buying a disk and attach the game to my steam account forever, I wonder in like 30 years if I want to install my skyrim disk again and don´t remember my steam account what shall I do.I prefer the way oblivion and fallout 3 goes, installing anytime whenever I want. There are pros and cons of using Steam, but I'd think it would be easier to reset a lost password than keep track of a disk for 30 years?

AltreU
It was mentioned before in one or more of the interviews that they've got game data packed on the disks (they were also glad to announce that they could fit the game on one disk), so I doubt that will be the case. I don't think it'd be smart to market a single player game that requires internet access (though I'm sure it's been done before).
TKHawke
Dead Island was run through Steam for PC users but thankfully, even though it brought up steam when I popped in the disc, it was merely just asking me to input my product keys and install onto to steam FROM the disc. If Skyrim is using steam for it then hopefully they use this tactic.

You have to connect to the net to activate it, after that you can run steam in offline indefinitly until it decides it needs to connect again. zer0morph
When I first bought New Vegas, I put the disk in and it made me install steam. Once I installed Steam it made me login and activate New Vegas. I then shut down Steam and installed from the disk in about 15 minutes. I then disabled Steam (Offline mode) and I was ready to play. I agree that I wish it was done the same way as Fallout 3, but I guess for a DRM Steam is a little less invasive, but I still don't like it. I'll take Steam over GFWL any day.... that one just eats up your resources like no tomorrow :wallbash: I still fight with it to run RF:G, and my computer is way beyond the recommended for that one....
