BigMacDk
(Solved) Right, the core of my problem, I cant for the life of me get my lappy to accept a single MOD with out crashing. I have non-steam GOTY, and it seems it works in its raw install with no hic-ups. System: Acer Aspire 5742Gi5 480MGeforce GT 540M4GB ddr3Windows 7 home. I have tryied several different mods, and run them as single mods with new games and save games, eventually I would have to endure crashes every time I opena door, or with save on travel off, every 5 mins for no apparent reason, it just froze, and I had to ctrl-alt-del and stop the program. To begin with I could not even get the game to run with FOSE, but I think I solved that by installing a previous version. The mods I have tryied were apo armory, FWE, underground hideout and EVE, and like I said, I have tryiedwith them as single mods, and all together, and the result was always the same, crash within 2 minutes nomatter the combo. The list of things I have tryied to do (The succes of them can be argued as im no tech): I have used FOMM all the way through, I have tryied different versions of this, and also installed it in different locations. I was using wrye bash aswell, but I didnt see any difference with or with out, and it just confuses me, asI dont really know how to use it. I updated my drivers, and installed K-lite and what not, still no joy there. I also tweeked my gfx settings with this and that, and although im mostly shooting blind (im no tech) I got thesame crash over and over regardless of settings, low, high, ultra, it still crash after a few mins. I am using games for windows live disabler, and ofc archaive invalidate invalidate through FOMM Here is the last of FO3edit (I have no clue what this program does, besides test how things load)and for the most part it looks fine, I cant see anything wrong, except a lot of "skipped" at the end, ill post that: again, no clue that I can find. Lets see, what else did I try.... Re-install, did that, again, game runs fine as soon as I dont try load any mod, I didnt play for 10 hours, but went through the vault and a few other questsjust to make sure, and it didnt crash if I open up a door 10 times in a row, that would surely crash it with any mod installed right offweather I have save on travel on or off. I have oblivion installed, and it runs fine with mods....just a side note, who knows. I read up and down the forums, and everything else I could find regarding hardware and software (Mods) etc etc and there is ofcno end to the fixes that some found worked for them, I feel I have given them all a try, so! THE END, if anyone found this interesting reading, kudos to them, and hope that someone might just pop in and say "hey dude, whydont you just" and fix this for me (can you blame me for whishing, I spend 40 hours this week off trying to get it to work, and my wifelooks like she is ready for a divorce!) Hopefull, and thanks BMD Edited October 1, 2011 by BigMacDk
dazzerfong
Judging from your CPU, you have 4 cores. There's an .ini fix that works for some people which involves adding the line iNumHWThreads=2 under the 'General section' in your Fallout.ini located in My Documets/Games/Fallout 3 (at least for XP). Since you have 4 GB of RAM, you can try the 4 GB Enabler on here to help: it helped for me quite a bit, preventing freezing errors until around an hour into the game. Good luck trying to get everything together!
BigMacDk
Yup tryied that, went in just now to check the INI file, and it was not there, and I know I saved the setting with the cores, oh well trying again,I am not sure how or where to apply that 4GB loader, do you by chance have a link for it, or might it be on the nexus dl site? Thanks again, BMD Edit: Just thought I would ask a simple question, why would the game run fine with no tweeks with the GOTY DLC and then crashwhen I start modding, gives food for thought. bmd Edited September 26, 2011 by BigMacDk
BlackRampage
Well, first off: Did you patch your game to the latest version? Second: What's your load order? A load order should be like this: [X] Fallout3.esm[X] Anchorage.esm[X] ThePitt.esm[X] BrokenSteel.esm[X] PointLookout.esm[X] Zeta.esm[X] Other .esm's[X] Other .esp's As far as FO3 edit goes: It's not supposed to "skip" those. It's supposed to say "Loading Resources" (or something like that)What version of FO3 edit are you using? Also, in what directory did you install it? And where did you install Fallout 3 itself? The .ini file can be found in my documents / my games / Fallout3 / Large Address Aware Enabler is the one you need to let your game use more then 2 gigs of RAM. BigMacDk
Right ill try answer best I can (I did edit the ini file now, and it has run for 1H+ so something has improved) I did do this, and saved the file, I could have sworn it, but as I said, went back and looked just to make sureand it was still the old INI file with no tweeks to the core assignment. So that at least made the gamemore stable with 1 MOD running, ie apo armory. I have GOTY and it should be the latest, dont think I can patch it further, at least not what I can gather. (1.7.0.3) Load order is as you write it. FO3edit is 3.0.15(experimental) Dont know how to make it not skip those files, everything should be thourghlyproperly and by the book installed with FOMM. (As far as I am able) FO3edit is installed (located) in my c/games/FO3 folder (the game is installed there, FOSE aswell, FOMM too) I will try to use the 4GB loader and see what it does and repport back, might try to use FWE aswell and start a newgame and test it aswell. Thanks for the answer, have a bit to try out. Cheers, BMD
BlackRampage
Yep, the 1.7 patch is the latest. FO3 edit: Have you tried an earlier version of it? (not the experimental version) The directory where you installed them is fine, but I have to ask: Did you install FoMM directly into the Games folder or into the games / fallout 3 folder? Best to have it just in the games folder. Also, since you have FOSE too, you might want to give this plugin a try too: Fallout Stutter Remover
BigMacDk
Ahoy. Yea I do have FOMM installed in the FO directory, ill move it, should not be to much hassle. I looked at the 3GB tweek, and decided that its to much for me to understand, ill return to it only ifI absolutely have to, or when im not nackered. Also I am now trying to get FWE-wandere eddtion to work, its gives me a warning once installed in FOMM"WARNING: This plugin has the file extension .esp, but its file header marks it as an esm! " and wont allow me to run through FO3edit it comes with an error (I now have a merged patch with Apo armory) [00:05] Background Loader: loading "FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp"...[00:05] Background Loader: [FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp] Loading file[00:05] Background Loader: [FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp] File loaded[00:05] Background Loader: [FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp] Start processing[00:05] Background Loader: [FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp] Adding master "Fallout3.esm"[00:05] Background Loader: [FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp] Adding master "CRAFT.esm"[00:05] Background Loader: [CRAFT.esm] Loading file[00:05] Background Loader: Fatal: <EOSError: System Error. Also when you make a merged patch with FO3edit, it just adds another file with the name yougive it, is it not suppose to remove some files and merge them or have i gotten that wrong downaswell? NM! im a goof ball, should just read a bit about foedit and stop asking stupid questions! Rant off Thanks again :) BMD Edited September 26, 2011 by BigMacDk
BlackRampage
I looked at the 3GB tweek, and decided that its to much for me to understand, ill return to it only ifI absolutely have to, or when im not nackered.I'd definitely recommend it nonetheless. There used to be another, tad bit easier version, out there too, but I can't recall what it was called anymore. If I find it, I'll post a link. Also I am now trying to get FWE-wandere eddtion to work, its gives me a warning once installed in FOMM"WARNING: This plugin has the file extension .esp, but its file header marks it as an esm! "Ignore it. Nothing to be concerned about. (quite the contrary actually) Load order is as recommended, but looks like im missing a master file, and I think I installed it correct (file 1 first then 2 and then the hot fix for FWE)Yep, you're missing "Craft.esm". The FWE mod plugins need Craft as a master. If it's not there, FO3 edit will simply stop loading plugins. You'll need both CRAFT and CALIBR (best acronym ever) to run FWE. I think those are already included in the latest version of the mod though. Also when you make a merged patch with FO3edit, it just adds another file with the name yougive it, is it not suppose to remove some files and merge them or have i gotten that wrong downaswell? NM! im a goof ball, should just read a bit about foedit and stop asking stupid questions!Nah, it's not a stupid question. Besides, we were all newbies once. Anyway, the merged patch doesn't remove plugins. It just merges them all together into 1 .esp, making your game run more stable. Just place it last and you'll do fine. Personally however, I'd wait a little while with making a merged patch until you've successfully installed all the mods you want.Honestly though, I've never noticed any chances between running Fo3 with or without a merged patch, and I'm running around 200 plugins. Opinions may vary though.
BigMacDk
Yea, figured out the merge patch, had to rename the program and run it again, what an odd thing, but works none the less, and yes, I dont see any difference either, except the MOD list gets shorter. I remember those two files, CALIBR and CRAFT, but they just dont show up after I install FWE. Dont know why, and Iremember that they were installed in my mods at somepoint...ill figure out why, just a matter of trying again a few times. I give the 3GB loader a try tomorrow when im up to it, best part is, that I still didnt crash once since you guys gave me reasonto go back and check my actual work, will probably give an update once I either get FWE working or my pants explode! Edit, no wonder things explode, the FWE install, if you are a noob like me, does not tell you to merge the 3 files before making a modout of them...what a mess I made out of this one! oh well all good fun.
