Skyrim Modland

Hey everyone.

Obviously Skyrim is not out yet and we all want to play it and eventually mod it. Well I learned a bit from previous modding experience and would like to work on a single project with a group of you.

... now... I know what you are thinking, you want to go off and create your own mods and express your own ideas. That is fine, and exactly what we want to do. But we want to do so in our own world. I've noticed that mods tend to clutter the main game itself. So, why not create our own major worldspace like a typical DLC except composed of 100% modded content. We may also tie some things back to Skyrim too.

What would need to be done:

Plan a world map (to give us an idea of what our world would look like)

Plan a main story (to give us a lore friendly reason for going there)

Plan Factions, and give a feel to the world.

Develop the world.

Claim areas for locations.

and so on...

It is a challenging task, but that's why I would like a group to help me do it. Developing a worldspace the size of shivering isles or so is a bit overwhelming for just one person. But I think that gives it potential.

Anyone in?

the purpose?

To prevent over crowding in the original map and create a new land for players to explore with a good amount of content from different modders; it's a collaboration.

You are right, it will be smaller than the main world. That doesn't necessarily mean it will be less detailed. All depends on who is doing it, as is with any mod. Even the developers leave things floating in the air...

The idea is nice but it´s too soon to plan a major mod, we still need to figure out how to use the creation kit and wait for nifskope and blender (or other 3d program) to be updated so it works with skyrim stuff I think.Plus people will want to play skyrim rather than mod it after it it´s release. I agree that it is too early to commit to such a large modding project when most players will want to play. And also we have no clue as to what the game has in store so until then, I would say no. That said, once the game had been out, and people have ran through the quests a couple times I am sure you will get a team. I for one would gladly help with factions/lore/terrain-development.

As for why would someone want to do this, how many new landmass/mainquest mods were there for morrowind...TONS. Oblivion also had a few worth noting. The point is, once people have done everything, they will want something new. Figure that it will be 2-3 years till an expansion comes, so this is where major mods like this come in to fill the gap. In some cases, they not only fill the gap but actually provide a place worth going back to.

"Crowding the original map"? Well hell.

Does somebody living in a mansion go about finding a new place to live, because his house has become CROWDED with luxury??

I don't there is a problem here. If there is, I need more problems.

Even if it made sense to do this, how are a bunch of completely unrelated mods by completely different people going to cobble together to make anything coherent? There is no way any basis to this world could form, without a lot of modders (about HALF of ALL of the modders in the WORLD, if you actually want this to compete with a modded Skyrim) all working together according to a shared plan.

the only point I can see to this is to prevent bugs and breaking of the main game .. but there is still going to be a ton of mod compatability issues in the new map you are proposing :/ .. thats just how this is always going to be .. but over crowding in the base world doesn't make sense to me .. I like the idea of more in a small place than just a few things in a big place .. oblivion was giant but there was so much empty space .. todd claims skyrim won't be so empty but lets wait and see.

Right. It's been years, and Oblivion's Cyrodiil STILL isn't crowded. The more mods, the merrier. Bring it on. I can only hope that one day, I will have the OPTION of crowding my game.

Cyrodiil? Not crowded? Maybe not the entire landscape is filled with mods (not counting things like UL that are meant to replace the entire landscape) but there are quite a few popular locations that are certainly overcrowded. Midas Magic, Servant of the Dawn, and The Lost Spires (and that's just off the top of my head, I can vaguely recall a few more mods but the names escape me at the moment) all use that one island in the Topal Bay. God help you if you wanna run all of those at the same time...
