Szablowskic2
Hey I just wanted to get your guys thoughts on race and how it effects the game. In oblivion I played as a khajiit and it basically didn't mean anything. No one really mentions your race and it has very little impact on the game. I was wondering if you think skyrim will put a bigger emphasis on what race you choose and what that might mean for game play. I kind of like the idea of the oppressed khajiit becoming a hero but let me hear what you think or have heard regarding race in skyrim.
crimsonblade1
You know, most people would rather just play and enjoy their games without thinking about stuff like racism.
El`derina
I am not so sure... it's a tough topic because of how it's likely to incite some people, and others have hard feelings about racism. It's even worse for some of those who suffer from it. Well,... if everyone can agree not to get at eachothers throats, because it IS just a game.I think racism in Skyrim would be a good thing and very immersive. And I don't believe it supports or encourages racism outside the game.It is true that there should have been many tensions between races in TES games, but it never showed anywhere.. and least of all for the player. This is a great immersion breaker. And before someone flames me for supporting racism(which I don't), MANY of us would play the oppressed races. McclaudEagle
In Oblivion, I think the most commonly found racism can be seen in Leyawiin. The Khajit and Argonians are always disrespecting each other, and so do some of the non beast race citizens.
lemonfan1
I wouldn't mind seeing this in the game. To me, it would make sense. And I love the idea of how different your game-play would be whenever you make a new character of a different race. Racism can work against you or in your favor, depending on those you're dealing with. It would bring in a deeper sense of immersion. It'd be nice if the game were designed to get people to have mixed views of you and your race and your actions can have an affect on their personal views. A lot of people would likely have a problem with racism being in the game, but I'm not one of them. I'd support it. To a point. While I'd like to see some general racism which would affect your game-play, I don't really like the idea of a group of...anything running around in uniform, wearing funny hats, trying to kill me. Of course, if I DID see that, they'd meet a quick end at the edge of a broadsword. ;)

elderiii
Morrowind had definite "racism" - specifically against the beast races (Khajit & Argonian in particular). You also had the Dunmer, who more or less hated anyone not Dunmer, although they hated the beast races even more. If you played as a Dark Elf in that game you would have an easier time (at first especially) talking to people and getting information from them.Oblivion had dialogue, more in some places than others, that indicated some "racism" existed, but it never really felt like it had any effect on you as the player.I would like it if Skyrim was more like Morrowind, in that it made a difference what race you chose - ie. choosing Nord would give you +10 personality with Nord NPCs whereas Dark Elf or High Elf would have a -5 or -10 personality and the other races would all be in between... things like that help to make a game world come alive. ;)
stars2heaven
I hope that racism plays a big role in Skyrim. It makes the world far more believable and interesting.
