AlexxEG
While I play BFBC2, BF3 or downloads torrents. (Nothing illegal, just to make that clear.), I will loose connection for a few seconds randomly. With BF I loose them every 5-10 min, which basically makes it unplayable since the matches are very long, and with torrents, it doesn't happen that often. It only happens with my computer, my brother can surf all he wants while I'm disconnected.I use a Netgear WG111v2 USB, newest driver as far as I can tell, I have updated everything I found related to internet connection. Any help would be appreciated. :) EDIT: Just though I should add: I can play CoD4 just fine. Edited October 2, 2011 by Alexx378
Stormcrown
Possible your renewing your DHCP Lease automatically. But I've no idea how to fix it. I have the same problem sometimes.
CommanderCrazy
Go into your router settings, (point your browser to localhost, typically http://192.168.1.1 ) and check the DHCP Lease Time. set to 24 hours is good.If that doesnt fix it, it may be time to upgrade to a wired connection. hoofhearted4
If that doesnt fix it, it may be time to upgrade to a wired connection. thats not always a logical step. usually ppl have wireless for a reason. in my case, im in the cellar, opposite from where my modem is. it would be a huge pain to get a wired connection, drilling holes through the floor and what have u....i mean it could be harder, im not across the hole house from it, but im not under it either. but ya, sometimes getting a wired connection just isnt in the plan if you know what i mean
CommanderCrazy
Wired is always better. It depends, is being on wireless critical, or just 'easier'.because if wired is possible, but wireless requires you to not stand up and plug it in or whatever, then go wired. hoofhearted4
well idk for his case, but like i said, in my case it would require drilling holes through my floor and wiring it across/through a couple of rooms just go get it to my PC, and like 25"+ of cable. just cause im clueless on this though, my modem only has one Ethernet port, and that is currently going to the PC it sits next to. if i wanted a second PC connected to that, what would i have to buy to allow 2 PCs to be connected to that one modem? CommanderCrazy
A router. plug a cable from the modem into it, and it splits that into 4 or 5 other ports
hoofhearted4
so the router i have for my wireless or a different kind of router?
CommanderCrazy
Depends. Some routers do nothing but wireless, some split it, some do both. Ive got a modem/router so i dont know in your case
Vagrant0
It could also be that your ISP is throttling p2p connections due to the amount of information you download within a given month. Torrents and p2p transfers, legal or not, both use up large amounts of bandwidth and some ISPs have put in place methods of severing these connections any time it goes over a certain limit. Many online games use p2p connections to sync with a main server, either to boost performance or by design (decentralized hosting). Regardless, all of this data is seen by your ISP as using the same sort of connection.
