ReDragon1976
Hello all I am an experienced player and have contributed a single house mod to these forums, (4 entrance underground base) as well as being the author of an ongoing story at fanfiction.com (Fallout3 life in the wasteland) based on FO3, and am just now starting to get re-interested in playing FO NV again after a six month hiatus. My question is multi fold, but the base of it is: Which mods do ppl reccomend to really enjoy FONV? I played with AWOP in my last play through and am going to update it, but what else do you suggest? Things I am interested in: Realism, difficult deadly combat, one shot one kill to me if I am not careful. A snipers bullet in the head will kill IRL and I like to play the game like that. A beauty mod, have used LINGS and Mikotos in FO3. A body replacer. I play hardcore always. Less ammo / harder scavenging. <---- IMPORTANT there should not be oddles of bullets / caps / food especially or water for that matter floating around after the war and the intervening years, also food should be scarce as well. Food : Shouldn't heal and there should not be much of it around. Caps : I had well over 20K caps in my last game, and that was using a harder scavenging mod (can't remember which) I didn't sell a single alcoholic beverage or cigarette (both items IMO would be an important trading item in a post Nuclear setting) Nor any of the 'M' weapons from AWOP. So less would be better Stimpaks / drugs / medical supplies : should be rare and weighted. Also stimpaks especially should cost mucho money. Ammo reloading : Any suggestions, not sure what i am after in this section, but in my last playthrough, IIRC I used a reduced ammo mod and by the time I got to novac I was crafting all my ammo. Crafting : both workbenches and campfires. MORE recipies for all manner of weird and wonderful stuff. In my fanfiction story I had my character make small grenades out of the raw materials for gunpowder (sulfer, saltpeter and charcoal) mixed up and placed in an old tin with pieces of jaggerd metal offcuts (for projectiles) and packed with metal shavings to eliminate as much air as possible, producing the best concussion possible in a lousy situation. It wouldn't be the best grenade in the world but for someone just out of the vault preparing to look around the springvale school it fit the bill. Vendors : Should be poorish and not have ultra powerful items if they are not suited to them, also should only be able to sell guns to gun vendors, med supplies to docs etc. Chet in GS ended up buying enough rifles to start a private army in my last playthrough. This is something I've looked for a fair bit but never found so it may not exist. Should charge outragishly and pay minimalisticly. More imersion : there are not enough civs around the strip, for example, or even goodsprings for that matter. IMPORTANT: I have no DLC :( Am waiting for a GOTY version to be released like FO3 was, I am in Australia with a bogus satellite BB connection. Companions : I usually make my own eye candy and leave them at my base of choice, so no real need there, and I don't usually take them with me, more of a solo player. HATE : Uber powerful weapons, special bases, sorters etc. I love the AWOP mod, the difficulty on some of the areas is spectacular, I spent 2 days trying to get a foothold in the underground section at the Nipton roadstop. This is how the FO universe should be. Kill or be killed, there is not gonna be a small challange in taking over a raiders base of operations, it is going to be an epic challange, one that only one in a hundred ppl should be able to acheive IRL, IMO. Have toyed with Fellout, is it any good, is there anything better to improve the look / feel of the FO universe? More missions / quests : there are never enough IMO. Romance : Has anyone made a mod that allows romantic situations in NV? Romantic, not so much sexual, have looked at and used animated prostitution, but not what I am after. Anything that adds to the immersion / difficulty is good. Perks : a few new ones would be good, nothing super powerful, but thats something I can determine, mainly looking for any perk pack mod that contains a few perks that would be suitable for a courier / wastelander, survival skills for etc. Also a level cap increaser. Less exp per kill Thats all I can think of ATM, but I hope you get what I am looking for and ANY suggestions are appreaceated immensly. Next time I get a new computer or upgrade I'm gonna make sure my original mod folder is copied over to the new hard drive. Thanks for your time fellow wanderers. ReDragon. mnemnoch
The latest version of AWOP now have a destructible loot script. Meaning, after you killed some npc their inventory combust making you unable to loot those M weapons. If you know your way around Geck or FNVEdit you can put that script in all NPC making it really hard to loot powerful armor and weapons. As for mods: DFB - Random Encountershttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=42793 Brings back random encounters all over mojave. Harder Than Youhttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43253 Makes you think twice before engaging the enemies. Different creatures, different strategies needed. WARZONES - now with ADJUSTABLE SPAWNShttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40980 Add places and towns where you can watch/participate in an all out war. Tales from the Burning Sandshttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37172 Quest mod. Have to use your brain instead of just plain shooting. Puce Moose Tweak and Balance Centerhttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35015 A bunch of tweaks, included in there are more dangerous combat, reduce ammo and chems etc. MCV - Modified Combat Valueshttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40097 Changes on the AI of the NPC. Check the description. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=1772745Check the mods of this guy. Especially the gang resurgence. Also besides AWOP, get MoMod and its patches for more locations and monsters.
PaladinRider
Shameless self-promotion but I recommend Run the Lucky 38 for an alternate quest mod where you can treat the entrepreneur inside you
ReDragon1976
I just found the 00Red Cross mod, http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41540 anyone know if it conflicts with AWOP? And the Goodsprings filler, http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35121 Can anyone confirm if it conflicts with AWOP?
mnemnoch
From what I can remember, both mods (filler and AWOP) used the house besides Doc Mitchell. For filler, its a house containing a NPC that gives quest while in AWOP its a player home you can buy for 5k caps. So its definitely a conflict but not a CTD type of conflict. I suggest that you finish all the quest that goodspring filler brings then uninstall it after. Or if you decided that you dont need a player home in goodspring you can leave both mods in your load order.
ReDragon1976
@mnemnoch : Excellant thanks for that, I usually use my own hideout, the 4 entrance underground base, I'm reworking it atm as well as looking for mods before I start playing again. I'm trying to figure out if I can add a delay / time lapse in the entrance cells for the base. As the name states it has four entrances, near jeans, gunrunners, nipton and novac petrol station and I want to make it seem like when entering the manholes at those locations other than jeans it takes time to travel via underground tunnels / sewers / subway whichever to the hallway where the compass orientated entrance leads. So that shouldn't be a problem, and am hopeing the 00Red cross mod doesn't conflict with them either, it looks cool. thanks to those who have responded so far, Also have edited my original post, added a few more guidelines if anyone can help. LadyAubrie
I've got a few ideas... Nevada Skies adds fairly realistic - and even hostile - climate, which you can toggle to your liking as far as frequency of changes, etc. It includes a night darkener...which is REALLY dark and you can make it even darker...oh, and the radstorms that pummel you with radiation. For increased realism, NMC's texture pack adds a level of realism to the game I had to see to believe. The wasteland looks a whole lot more hostile...well, everything looks more hostile. Vaults and bunkers are badly rusted, the crackling wallpaper looks real enough to peel off yourself, and of course, the desert looks more unforgiving than ever. But a warning, though...it eats the RAM. If you've got an awesome computer, though, there's no reason not to run this. It's awesome. To help your immersion, I'd suggest either New Vegas Re-Animated or one of the other weapon/stance animation mods, like Weapon Animation Replacers...after all, if you're this hardcore, it helps to look like a badass. :) And while PaladinRider's Run the Lucky 38 mod is brilliant, fun, and awesome - one of my favorites so far - I wouldn't recommend it to you personally, ReDragon. It has lots of expensive sellable junk stashed in nooks and crannies. I've made a ton of caps off this mod alone. If you want a truly gritty experience, this isn't for you! (No offense, PaladinRider...I love your mod!) And I second the recommendation for Willow. She's the most complex, deepest companion I've seen, and one of the most complex in the whole game, vanilla included. Your relationship with her can be anything you like it to be, it's fully voiced and scripted, and it's one of the best - and only - romance mods I've seen for FNV so far. A must-have, even for the loner. And I URGE YOU to try New Vegas Bounties (both). You're hired by a gruff, rude bounty hunter to go chase down the worst scum the wasteland has to offer. I've only played the first one so far, but you're put in some truly compromising situations...in one you're forced to fight, naked and unarmed, against a man who's very good with a cleaver. That one wasn't exactly easy, especially since my unarmed was my lowest skill. You make dangerous enemies, too...and the last boss was far harder than any fight I've found in this game. The first one pays a decent amount for hits...but apparently the second one has scaled way back in terms of payment for bounties. I'm sure some - if not all - of these will enhance your game in a way you'll like if you play around with them. Have fun! MojaveMike
And I second the recommendation for Willow. She's the most complex, deepest companion 1-dimensional, whorish, HOTTEST companion I've seen, and one of the most complex SEXEH in the whole game, vanilla included. Your relationship with her can be anything you like it to be YOU CAN HAVE SEX WITH HER A LOT, it's fully voiced and scripted, and it's one of the best - and only - romance GIRLFRIEND SIMULATOR mods I've seen for FNV so far. A must-have, even for the loner.Fixed for accuracy.
LadyAubrie
Ah, but we should never confuse fact with opinion, should we? My third grade teacher was very adamant about that. Still, it goes to show: no mod is for everyone! Download at your own discretion, ReDragon. Your opinion is the final one in this thread...we're all just here to give you ours, for as much as they're worth to you. :)
