Multiplayer

For the person who is talking about creating an 'immersive' experience through multiplayer, have you ever attempted role playing on a WoW server? Even on an RP server it is so difficult that everyone gives up. Everytime you see another player controlled character, you are reminded that this world is simply a construct. The point of this game is to leave the real world behind completely and I don't see how bringing a friend along is going to help you do that...

Quests have been sorted in dozens of different ways by other Co-Op / MMO's over the last 10years.

Personally I could never RP in a single person RPG anyway, was much easier to do in MMO's even by myself I had a ball RP'ing and others would join in, if you can't RP with friends it's probably because they just can't RP :)

My prefered RP is when we get 5 of us together on a Saturday night break out the dice, AD&D or Cyberpunk 2020 and order some Pizza's :)

this post makes me sad.. a tes would be an awesome multiplayer game.. one of the biggest problems i see is that if you have about 5 people, they could possibly scatter in different directions causing a lot of lag.. but a multiplayer would introduce a whole new playing style.. you could have healers, tanks, and dps.. basicly it would be a sweet version of wow :D

I do remember that someone allready did a Coop Mod for Oblivion.

They could play up to 3 people, with one being the Host and the other two being invited to the game session.

I don't know the gist of it,but the only restriction is that they would have to stay in the same area(like a 600m area) or else the connection would be lost/game would freeze etc.

There is a video of it in youtube, its not really new but it was done.

So if it could be done in oblivion, why couldn't it be done in Skyrim?

And yes before you ask the other players where using their own characters, another restriction was that if they used mods, they add to use the same for everyone or else they would'n work properly.

That particular mod did not work. The game had frame rates so low that it became unplayable, it created so many bugs it wasn't funny, and the 600m thing fluctuated wildly, so that sometimes you could be right next to each other and the freeze would occur, just because of the bizarre nature of Oblivion's render in relation to the server hoster

I was just gonna say you should play the mod and see for yourself just how well it works. But it appears someone has saved you some work and done so already.

...so no,... it was DONE for oblivion, and it will be DONE for Skyrim, that much is obvious because people just don't learn... will it be usable? 99% likely that it 'won't'

my probs to the person that pulls it off..

Only way to get multiplayer is if bethesda programmed it into the engine so that the data would sync. But since they didn't and won't we won't have a good multiplayer. Although I'm thinking with the improvements they made to the engine you might be able to make a mod that records how you play, say for a few hours or so, and then writes that in an AI and creates a mod file making your play style into an NPC. Which then could be downloaded by other players and that would be the closest you would get. The combat would be decent but following might be stupid depending on how NPCs act while following a player in this game.

While I'm not a fan of the idea of complete, multiplayer. I would be glad if there was a simple way to just fight a friend in an arena. It wouldn't require the re-scripting of the game, and may be a faint possibility as opposed to the 'complete multiplayer' idea.

.... no, just no...

it WOULD require a complete re-scripting of everything but quests...

think about it... if you got multiplayer working for an arena combat type thing,.. whats really stopping you from getting it into the rest of the game world?

yea, arena fight would indeed be amazing... it still has the same issues, back to square 1!

EDIT: We NEED a pinned multiplayer topic thread with the first post updated with all the clear cut reasoning behind the yes and no's of the topic. Odai had a post a while back on the reason this cant be done with TES without ruining it, and there are many other technical reasons as well... it would really help if there was a dedicated space for this instead of getting a new topic for it every 3 days. SO even those pressing for multiplayer could make their pitch and if they have a valid point on making this possible, it can also be added to the original post.
