2nd Playthrough -- mod recommendations?

Now that all or most of the NV DLC has been released, I've decided to give the game a 2nd playthrough, maybe using a few mods. I do not want to change the gameplay at all, nor do I want to change the look and feel of the game, but I do want to scale up the graphics as much as possible. The problem is that most mods do more than just scale up the resolution -- even the texture mods, while possibly preserving the look and feel like they say, will do a lot more than just add extra detail. And I worry about how these changes could unexpectedly ruin the look of a particular scene; after all, these textures are reused in many places, often in unique combinations that were designed with the vanilla textures in mind. This is especially true now that new DLC has been released after these vanilla textures were modded. I would like to experience the game as it was intended, but I would also like to take advantage my machine's capabilities. So, I guess I am looking for mods that do this, but also advice on how to take apart some of the big mods so that I can use only certain parts.

Of course, you will want to know what I am looking for. I am not looking for random weather that is inappropriate for the settings, but I am looking for some amount of setting-appropriate weather, as well as better sky textures and whatnot. I do not want any of the pretty body replacements, but a higher resolution, slightly more realistic version of the vanilla bodies would be nice. I do not want to change the look of important NPCs, but I would like to scale up the resolution of these NPCs without changing their facial topology. I would also like to make the other NPCs more realistic, maybe somewhat more pleasing, even if it changes their facial topology, but I do not want them to look plastic and "perfect." I already have a nice face for my character, but the resolution is low, she looks blurry with no detail, smudged lips and whatnot. Some new hairstyles for my player character would be nice, but I do not like most of the hair mods. I like the common man hairstyles from the early 20th century to the 1950s, and I like the hairstyles worn by the industrial music subculture in the 1980s. There is a lot of pretty, clean, feathered hair, and there is even a lot of punk and goth hair, but there is no industrial hair-styles. I also like my hair to be solid surface, no translucent feathering or layering. High-resolution texture replacements would be good, so long as they do not change the look too much. It's probably safe to change the ground and road textures, but I worry about building and wall textures. Any new graphics tech would also be nice.

I could use all of the retextures if it were possible to revert back to the vanilla textures when I am in a DLC. Is it possible?

Anything that scales up the resolution or adds some realist is good as long as it does not change the look and feel of the game as it was intended.

Well it would help if i knew what was .esps and what was .esms...Unless your not asking about load order and are asking in which order to install them in FOMM in that case it doesnt matter.

Anyway i dont recommend Project Reality in my play through it made everything really grey and took away the feel of the mojave. The skies were cool though but the wealther conflicts with HH causing it to drain when any PR weather goes off.

I don't have any of those mods besides the companion sandbox one. Try using a load order sorter, it may resolve the problem. Try disable one mod at a time and go in the saloon, and when it doesn't crash, you know you've turned off the culprit.

I have tested each of my mods one at a time. I was able to open any door and enter without crashing until I tried it with Ojo Bueno's Textures. NMC's Textures do not cause a crash, but many of the textures do not appear as they do with Ojo Bueno's Textures on top of NMC's, or with Vanilla Textures only. That is, I can enter the saloon properly with Vanilla Textures only, and I can enter the Saloon with NMC's Textures installed, but if I do the latter, then some of the textures, like the floor textures, are missing or pitch black. And, if I use Ojo Bueno's Textures on top of NMC's, then I cannot even enter the Saloon to see if the Textures appear properly.

Has anyone had this problem with Ojo Bueno's textures? Anyone know what is causing it and how to fix it?

I don't know what I've done wrong, but now it even crashes a few seconds after loading a save, not just when travelling between cells. I'm pretty sure its something to do with the Ojo Bueno architecture textures since I have no crashing problem without it. On the other hand, disabling Project Nevada will keep the game stable until i travel between cells. Edited by HSovieticus

Still am unable to play the game with Ojo Bueno's textures. I should be able to, as my computer is more than capable, and I do not get any lag, just CTDs. I must have done something stupid or stupidly forgot to do something simple. I've tried so many things, but i cannot get them to work. I read that the 4gb patch is no longer useful, but I tried it anyways and there was no improvement; in fact, it may have gotten worse. I have tried many other things. The only thing that kind of helps is using a lower quality version of Ojo Bueno's architectural textures, but I still get CTDs, I just get a few extra seconds before they happen. That would suggest that the problem has something to do with texture size, but the file size for the sum of all Ojo Bueno Textures is much less than the file size of NMC's Large Texture Set, yet I have no CTDs with the latter, just some missing textures. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Edited by HSovieticus

I managed to get it working with no CTDs, but a lot of the textures were not actually replaced in game like, for instance, the road textures. I managed to get all textures to appear, or, at least, it looked like most of them were there, but this reintroduced the CTDs that occur when travelling between cells. Now, this is interesting. I thought it was Ojo Bueno's textures, the architectural ones in particular, because that was the last one introduced to FOMM and the first one to introduce CTDs to my game, but now I am not so sure. The first state i mention, the one with no CTDs and some un-replaced textures, was a mashup of both NMC's & OjoBueno's textures; i copied it to the data folder by hand and used the archiveinvalidationinvalidated.bsa mod instead of FOMM. The second one, the one with no missing textures and frequent CTDs, is mostly just NMC's textures. That is, I used FOMM to overwrite the first one, but I imagine that a few Ojo Bueno textures remain. Now, the second one in FOMM did not actually introduce CTDs until i got all of the textures to appear by doing manual archive invalidation as before, but this time I updated all 3 ini files. This allowed all of the textures to replace their vanilla counterparts, but it also introduced frequent CTDs.

EDIT: still have the second setup, but on my second test I loaded a save where my character is inside the saloon and, strangely enough, I had no CTDs for the whole test. The Wasteland displayed all the proper textures, and so did the saloon, at first, but after I left and returned to the saloon, the whole floor and ceiling were black.
