spiritshadowx
I was playing Oblivion today when i realised I was playing at 8 FPS. Now this isn't a plea for help because to be honest, i have done the maximum i can do. However this framerate doesn't bother me. Sure it isn't smooth, but it's playable for me. I enabled as much graphics as i can without making the lag unbearable and i like it. This intrigued me. I wondered if there's anyone else like me who can run a game on anything with any framerate or if everyone strives for the most expensive rig to run games at amazing FPS. SO what frame rate do you run at? Please feel free to explain why below.

InAComaDial999
Play at 1920x1080 and have 60 fps pretty consistently. This with an i7 920 and a 1GB ATI 5870. I have a reasonably modded setup, but not running body replacers, environmental texture replacers (e.g. Quarl), or RAEVWD really keeps the framerates high. Gotta say that for actually playing the game, I prefer having high framerates to eye candy. Edited October 9, 2011 by InAComaDial999

bben46
@ratcatcher. Not necessarily, However, if you cap the framerate at a lower number it MAY help. If you often see 50 or higher FPS, and cap it at 30 FPS you should see some improvement. I capped mine at 32 to get a smoother game. You may have to experiment some to find the best level. In battle the lag does get out of hand (on Oblivion it's okay, on Fallout it's near impossible to shoot to the point i only use vats). I have an intel mobile chipset 4, so i'm impressed with the performance i get.
David Brasher
I turn off the frame-rate meter and focus on playing the game instead of focusing on the frame-rate. Frame-rates above 32 are sort of meaningless, because 32 frames per second is about the highest that the human eye can register. Hollywood uses 32 frames per second in creating motion pictures. The problem is that if you are running enough visual mods to drop your normal framerate to around 30, then when you get into crowded areas, large fights, etc, the game will lag very noticeably. Whereas if your baseline framerate is high, then even large battles won't lag the game enough to notice. But whatever, it's a matter of taste in the end. I can easily tell the difference between 60+ fps (my monitors refresh rate) and 55. Watching movies is unbearable for me, the frame rate is too low.
