gsman
I've recently noticed an increase in performance issues while playing FO4. I just started a new game after finishing the main story for a 3rd time. I noticed a lot of stuttering inside and outside of cities. I've tried to figure out what the problem is and it seems to be related to my Hard Disk. Every time there is a stutter in game i get a 100% spike in hard drive usage. Is there any way to lower this? I've tried every performance mod on the Nexus, uninstalled like 30 mods that have known to effect performance, and i'm just at a complete loss. Is anyone else experiencing these problems and/or knows how to fix them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (This is a recent problem only, game has run fine before now) Specs: Processor: i5-4690k RAM: 8gb OS:windows 10 (ive disabled everything i can to stop any excess memory usage) Graphics Card: GTX
cossayos
I didn't check disk or CPU usage, but I get the weird stutters too. When the game first came out it ran just fine with higher settings than I have now. Same rig, same components. I can only assume it to be a couple of reasons. One of the patches messed up performance, one of the DLCs or the fact that I upgraded to win 10 since I last played it. Not really sure if that's one of the issues, but Concord has virtually turned into a no go zone. Every now and then, the frame just freezes for up to 10/20 seconds. I also get the CTDs when being in inventory or woorkshop mode. Never happened before either. Edited May 27, 2016 by cossayos
cossayos
Edit. I just looked the issue up on google and it seems it could be windows related. Try this. I guess, it can't hurt in any case, since it takes care of another background process running. http://wccftech.com/fallout-4-performance-impacted-by-latest-win-10-update-workaround-discovered/ Carefully optimistic. Seems to have done the trick in my case. Edited May 27, 2016 by cossayos
jones177
Hi When I ran Fallout 4 with Fallout Performance Monitor I noticed that it was reading smaller amounts of data more often compared to Skyrim. Skyrim reads larger amounts of data less often. The Skyrim setup is easier on hardware because it gives HD cache time to recover, especially on modded games. Even with my lightly modded setup I got I/o pauses after building up settlements to vanilla levels. My WD Raptor can do SSD speeds from cache so this was puzzling. I came to the conclusion that my caches size was being overwhelmed by way this game reads data. To fix(hoping) it my next HD will have 128mb cache. Like Skyrim this is a load as you go game. For other types of games this type of stuff is not very important at all. The game has lost performance with the updates. My average frame rate is definitely lower now from when the game came out. It's no problem to run Diamond City or some other crowded area. It's a big problem when venturing into Boston itself. There's constant stuttering, obviously to load new structures into memory. I didn't have this when first firing up the game last fall. And I ran it on higher settings than I'm running it now. They did something seriously F.... up when patching. Hope there will be a fix.
