Request for a proofread of a Settlement Mod Guide, please.

Yep, Stuyk did a good job, with pictures and everything. =)

He PM'd me about it a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to fully go through it yet, but once I do I'll edit it into the original post here.

Edit: It really is a shame that the original thread titles can't be changed here. =/

Right I got my ass in gear and made a video tutorial (maybe someone else has in the meantime) that should hopefully help some settlement n00bs  (don't worry I was one of those for several weeks) .. of course, all from what I learned thanks to blahblah's guide. This allows for a bit of visual reference to everything described in his guide.

Feel free to point people to this video. Feel free to help people in the comments section too

Admittedly, I've kind of skipped testing of supply lines and sending settlers. I might make a follow up video to prove it works with the tutorial I've created (if someone follows this guide and finds it doesn't work please let me know!!)

Part 1: Settlement basics

How to set up a functional settlement

Part 2: Settlement complexities

Things to be careful with when making settlements

Back To The Settlement: Part 3

Doc Brown and Marty McFly travel back in time using a save game to flush out the 0% bug issue

(not really)

Back To The Settlement: Part 3

You know, I've never come across this (and I haven't mentioned until now...bad me!). Remind me, do you use the vanilla parent (or initialize) quest as basis or the Automotron one?

I do remember that Speedy totally skips either the initialize quest (as he said, we each have made our own modifications). Wondering about you...maybe there is some correlation?

Just out of curiosity, not because I have magic answer.

Sure. I use Vanilla...I don't own Automatron. I also do both quest (new) and initialize (duplicate). I notice the guy who recently did Red Rocket Settlements mentioned he did a different method for each one, with the intent of flushing it out..

Both attempts in the videos above worked first time (50%). The question then I guess is if speedynl is still experiencing it when not using initialize?

I still only have guesses. Like you, I'm not necessarily asking for answers...this is just what comes to mind when I question this issue, but if you have any additional info (whilst we still have no solid reason) it might be useful! Could it be related to us all using the same "Workshops" alias (for example if two settlement mods use the same alias Workshops could that cause a problem)? Do you know why we put 3 different LocTypes and not just LocTypeWorkshopSettlement? Could it be that? Could Encounter Zone interfere in some way? And presumably, if it's an issue with WorkshopParent itself, the code would need to be scrutinized...but then, surely it would happen with vanilla settlements if that was the case.

if i have less then 50% its because i did something wrong(or forgot something) and or used a save that already had info from the esp's, never got less then 50% for common/fh (wel got that in nuka but thats another story) when using my vault exit save

as for 3x loc if you mean for location the original have those to, the parent from auto have only 2 words and location, also i never use anything more then the parent, never used the workshopini quest, maybe that 1 cause the 0% bug but if you use only 1 esp i would not see why, maybe if you run 10 the same scripts it can't keep up(remember its a beth game), but then again the originals works fine with that script to, only difrent is it use only 1 scrip for all settlements(so maybe you should leave out that 1 and see wat happens)

running 6 esp atm with settlements test all work fine when hitting the wb all 50% even in nuka world

look here http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/images/47682/?

just looked at the quest list from auto and ques wat it don't have the wbini, so my best ques is that quest cause the 0% then

I don't know what "wbini"...non-abbriviated version?
Never mind. I'm a dumb dumb today, you meant initialize quests.
...I must be tired. =(
...anywho...

As I noted, I've never run across the 0% (as a bug, nor as an intermittent issue...only when I've completed shrewd up something when building in CK, heh). Could be a conflict of keywords or aliases, m0ds1984, for sure. However, it'd most likely be the new ones we've add individually conflicting with each other (as I understand you meaning and agreeing), rather than any of the vanilla stuff.

To clarify, I use (be they crated new or a duplicate of the existing) both the initialize and parent quest, vanilla versions, every time.

I will note that I have been curious about the Story Manager recently, in respect to building settlements in general.

I'll keep in the back of my head and if I come across anything, I'll note it. =)

I haven't watched them myself yet, but more power to yah on the video tutorials. Sure they'll be helpful. When I add Stuyk's, I'll add yours up there too.

Have added both m0ds1984's and StuykGaming's guides to original post.

...and changed a "then" to "than" just for you, JimmyRJump. ;-)

I personally enjoyed part 1 where you say "I'm gonna show you how to make a Fallout 4 Settlement in 10 minutes or less" and my then looking at the video's run time and seeing 21+ minutes. =P
Kidding! Always nice to see helpful people in any way, shape or form. =)
Will watch it all the way through at some point.
Ragoda also suggested some edits to the list, but I haven't had a chance to consider them yet:

So, this is what I found:
· LinkedRef tab > Ref = WorkshopWorkbench - keyword = WorkshopLinkBuildableAreaEdge
· LinkedRef tab > Ref = XMarkerHeadingWorkshopLinkSpawn - keyword = WorkshoplinkSpawn
· there are 5 Defaults in first part of WorkshopScript, not 4
· should you add Encounter Zone to Location in Objects?
§ In Match Conditions, Right Click>New
· Condition Function drop-down = HasKeyword
· Parameters = WorkshopWorkbenchTypeSettlement

Thank you Ragoda. =)

Haha, perhaps being a smart-ass, but for those who aren't also recording a video tutorial at the same time (explaining things as they go) can probably achieve it in 10 if they're really diligent. Granted, it took me 2 hours originally, so perhaps I shouldn't be endorsing the possibility of newer modders to have luck in 10, 20 minutes...but by about the fourth attempt I had it down to about a 20 minute process

The one thing that saves time is giving the XMarkerHeading's small names, like "MySpawn", not "XMarkerHeadingWorkshopSpawn" ... lol... sure it helps to know exactly what it is, but it's a time eating process. So my vids definitely deviate away from your guide on that part, but everything else is still formed from it, I switcher'ood some of the process/steps is all. Why watch it? You know how to make settlements  Thanks though!

I think I've had my fun with settlements for now, I do appreciate that you had the best info on the subject way back when. And because of that I can now even do a little bit more than just settlements with creation kit, which was an unintended (good) consequence! Now I have extra things to be excited about should Beth do an elder scrolls or new fallout game with more settlements. I'm sure lots of people are pissed off at the thought but lol for me it's a good one. To see one of them get 4000 favorites on bethesda.net, for a platform (Xbox) I don't even have/use, and of course all the dorsements, feedback, support and interest here on Nexus, is very cool! And that all stemmed from your guide, so thank you very much! I'll pop over a donation at end of month if you have that button available on your mod/profile

I'll also add your guide link and credit in the description when I next login to that YT account, sorry I forgot to do so. I'm sure you can use some more people asking you some more questions  (or speedynl..!!)

Of course I'm being a smarty pants. =)

In fact it took me a couple days to work out the process to begin with. =P

No donation (though I always appreciate the thought)...but you can always lend me a hand with a fix for my Small Addition companion (my current pain in the butt). ;-)

A bit off topic:

I'm about to (soon'ish) start officially asking for creative people to lend a hand with his dialog, too, and general world quests (actually building them...more complicated quests and scripting continue to elude me). Hopefully having the world and most of the resources built (fully admit to "built" meaning, in some cases, "hacked together") will show that I'm committed (even if lacking in time) to The Small Addition project and prompt people to provide some (wo)manpower to fleshing it out. =)
