Collision Shape (When creating custom collisions)

Recommended Posts

So far I used only "create rigid body with proxies". Unrelated, tried to make a helper collision and didn't give much, so there's stuff I need more help with there.

For you, I suggest you do one at a time. Make one material collision, link to chosen visible mesh, collision with proxy from menu, give the appropriate weights and materials to each object. Move on to next group of objects. Seems to work for me, but I don't use more than 2-3 materials per object. More collision shouldn't be an issue, just make sure they are following the object. I think that should be your worry first and foremost, and fidelity of material only after

Well, its not the matter of different material types for me so much as creating collision that is at least close to the shape of the object I created, which is why it often takes more than 1. I mean, I could do bulky, clunky collision, but that can be really obnoxious for a player. That and starting work on more conplex objects that will take several collision objects, which is why I am trying to get them to merge into a single collision

Doubt that's even possible. They'll be separate as it's probably normal to be :)

You can still make very close to the original object, but just use same material all over if it doesn't work for you to have multiple ones.

Hmm. Every structure/ large object that would have multiple pieces of collision from the vanilla game used a single collision object to cover it all, so, I figured that was optimal if possible, rather than a NIF that has 10+ for something like the red rocket that has walls floor etc. Though, as we discussed, they most likely used "Mesh" shape on the collision, which is sub-optimal, so, guess thats probably why.

*shrug* no big deal, I have had no issue creating collision the other way, was just trying new things. Sorry you didn't get the stair helper working. Where exactly is the helper at? Would like to take a look at it, since I am going to need stairs very shortly..

In the dropdown menu for object type. Not sure how to go about it.

Also, look at the concrete stuff. Look at the barn stuff. Collisions are handled multiple ways :)

I don't have any problems making collision though, what are you trying to assist with exactly? Creating a single collision object that is actually mutliple? Cause I swear you just said that you doubted it was even possible..

I really have no issues creating collision at all thus far, for static stuff anyway. Just working out trying to make it all 1 object, but its not a huge deal.

What drop down menu for object type are you referring to, though? Screenshot maybe? I am just missing where you are talking about, sorry. (For stair helper)

Sorry, reading at 5 am. Thought you can't get an object with multiple types of collisions separate. You want them all in one. Hey, given how little I know, might be possible. But on the other hand can't see how, again, from my level, and what objects I see made of multiple materials but one collision I assume they use one single material for their collision. You've also asked about wire meshes (lets bullets thru, not player), maybe making small lines of collision ever 16 points to simulate wire would work.

No worries! Its not even so much trying to get several different types of materials to combine into a single collision.. I will take a screenshot of an example of what I am trying to do, maybe itll explain better than I am, perhaps what I want to do is still possible (aside from doing "mesh" collision shape, which as suggested I am avoiding  )

I will have to post it later tonight, can't at the moment.

Regardless, I appreciate the replies / convo, you've always been very helpful. even when we were misunderstanding eachother

Edit: Hmm, some how i missed that that drop down is a lot longer than what I realized.

Also, the idea for wire above would certainly work, I have no doubt. Its not a bad idea at all. Just curious if I can find the means to do it how its done in vanilla objects (Aside from just copying their collision, which I have done more than a few times.). So its something I plan to keep trying new things out on :)

Stopped copying collisions a while ago. Takes way less to just make one, even if the materials are not 100% accurate.

I didn't mean that I am still routinely doing that, just meant that I have in the past :P.

Sorry, I didnt forget the screenshots, just been really ill actually, so I havent even touched my mod stuff the last 2 nights unfortunately. Find it hard to focus when I feel like s***.

Eh, don't worry. We're been there, sucks ass :)
