This is what happens when you support console modding.

I come from, and will support unto the death, the PC master race. I have never been a modder, but have worked on the team that designed the Unique Landscapes mods from Oblivion...way back when. Console Schmucks are just...Console Schmucks. Don't listen to them...don't even help them.

I can't even take this seriously.

You don't need to. But you just have to respect it.

Because of that people will rather postpone uploading anything there untill they are done with their project. On Nexus everyone are considered beta testers and with exception of few rare cases, they all know what it means. If someone is being an idiot or harassing anyone, his comments can be hidden by mod author or moderator.

I think this is not only a topic about how mature is the audience or how many idiots we have here it's also a matter of how bad is the tool itself.

I mean, the one thing i keep asking myself is how the f*#@ am i suposed to give them suport? first i can not even write a proper description because i have only 2550 characters to write it wich is fine if you just made a retexture or a new weapon mod but to explain a project like mine i need way more than 2500, so this end up puting a nexus link in the mod page wich is absurd. Second i cannot moderate the comments and it's weird to answer people directly so i cant answer problems or commens as i do on nexus. Third i have not a bug section so people keep spamming the same bugs not because they're retarded but because it's hidden by the crappy posting zerg. And well ofc i've not an Xbox so if i make a mistake uploading i cannot test it and because they're childs they're going to rate down the mod because "The mod doesn't work do NOT get it... it sucks, and it doesn't work.. 1star!!!!!!!" so yea... The changelog is the only good point in the BethNet page but it lacks of a lot of tools that we already have in nexus wich are awesome.

No, we don't have to respect it. See, this is the problem and it's with society as a whole. It's the segmentation and vilification of the "Other". In this case it's because someone simply chooses to play games on a different machine, either because of available funds or because of ease of use. This tribalistic attitude doesn't help anything or anyone, it just seeks to further divide.

The management of Nexus chooses to bury its head in the sand, and encourage the moderators to toe the party line. But something is coming that should make us all very unhappy.

The issue is NOT FO4. Just as Beth's unhappy attempts to SABOTAGE Skyrim modding crashed and burned within days, there is next-to-nothing Beth can do to spoil the (dying) Nexus mod scene for FO4. Why? Cos of the direct consequences of the ancient software engine used to power FO4. It is too open- too hackable- too 'old school'.

The issue is Skyrim 2 (the place holder name for the next Elder Scrolls single player open world game). This game uses the ALL NEW iDTech derived engine- that is built from the ground up for modular, easy to apply, easy to control, easy to distribute mods. And this engine WILL NOT allow mods to be hosted anywhere but Bethesda, net.

Mods for Skyrim2 will all need to contain SIGNATURE IP owned by Bethesda, and this trick allows Beth total control over how and when such mods are made available.

For earlier Beth games, most mods do not need to contain one lick of Beth IP (using Beth tools to make a mod is NOT the same thing legally as a mod that contains Beth IP). It is the world's easiest thing to create a modding system where mods all need a legally licensable block of IP SIGNATURE code embedded within them. Skyrim 2 will NOT have the 'accidental' modding world of FO3/NV/Skyrim/FO4- think Apple app store instead.

Can Beth be dissuaded from this course of action? NO! Will this kill Beth game modding as we currently understand it? YES!

In the mean time, the BEST strategy is to ignore the drama created by Beth.net, and to remake Nexus in the shape of the best open-source practices. This means reversing the 'modder is god' policy of the Nexus, and actively encouraging modders to make their resources available for the use of other modders. Modders should NOT have the ability to block read-only access to 'their' pages on the Nexus - that abilty is so open to abuse it is unreal.

The Nexus should actively encourage all forms of fundamental modder resources to be hosted here- not just GLORY-SEEKING, "how many endorsements did I get" finished mods.

The whole HOT-FILES, Files of the Month concept belongs on Beth.net, not here. Modding should NOT be a popularity contest (which brings out the very worst in people) but a happy decent collabrative effort where SHARING ideas and skills is seen as the ideal.

Nexus has an uphill battle to come- taking the high ground is the ONLY way to win.

It would be impossible and unprofitable for them to do this. If that were the case no mod could be made and tested and if it can be made and tested without uploading and then downloading then there is nothing stopping it from being downloaded from somewhere else and treated as a test. Then if it did require the alpha stage mod to be uploaded then downloaded to be tested on the authors PC they are going to be losing all their profit from selling the game to pay for the bandwidth itself, think they want 500 GB uploaded and downloaded dozens of times a day for a week straight compounded by each and every authors own mod plus all the bandwidth from the finished mods? Nexus spends over 400k a year with just the finished product, compound that with unfinished huge projects, hundreds of tests a day for each unfinished mod then the hundreds of thousands of mods that are made for the author only and will never be made public. Shareholders wont be happy watching the profit go away because of wasted bandwidth.
